  1. A tall skinny cabinet. (with a closeup of the stand.)

  2. Over in blighty, there has been a ridiculously successful re-introduction of the red kite. This 6 foot wingspan raptor was pretty much extinct here, but is now a familiar sight in our neck of the woods. There are now apparently nearly 5000 breeding pairs. We see them pretty much every day. They are social birds and will hunt and roost in groups. Because of food pressure (they eat mainly carrion, and odd large insect) they are now almost feral, and will apparently occasionally take a small mammal. Beware cats! I'm sure the red kite has been responsible for some small cat disappearances. They are a real masters of the air

  3. Got home from vacation very late last night/early this morning. Decided to enjoy the one nice day for the next several.

  4. Got my new front brake pads put in. Much better; now if I brake hard, that motherfucker will stop in a hurry.

  5. I’m sure Steve would be happy to use it for his penis extensions. They don’t have to be straight. Put an extension on the outfeed of the planer. I had to briskly walk around the machine to catch the board, this should let me take it easy.

  6. Woo, looks like the CPU board is working! Currently set at 20.29 Hz for 33.33rpm output. Got the front panel also working and now just need to solve the issue of the reflective IR Sensor (or go back to a magnet) - which I think might take a shroud to try and reduce stray light. The second display will then read out the actual platter speed as measured by the tach. Then I can adjust the speed in a feedback loop (PID). Still smells like a busted cap though

  9. Sorry it is going back to Grizzly. I decided they needed to eat the cost for shipping out such shit. Shipped out with a thin styrofoam packing that was broken into a thousand pieces when I got it. Going back in the same fucking packaging.

  10. I dunno, is it okay with Larry if we use that? We haven’t asked permission after all.

  11. The kitchen floor here was pretty out of whack before the remodel, but they doubled up some of the joists in the basement and used 4x4 posts to help level it out a bit.

  15. Took a break from work to empty and scrub clean the kitty litter box. Put it on the patio to dry and when I returned some birds had used it for target practice. 🤦‍♂️

  18. Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley's Beach Party It makes me sad we don't have more live albums of the rock pioneers in their prime. Bo and his boys absolutely shred here for a straight up 30 minute hit of adrenaline. With performers like Chuck Berry, Bo, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, and others the studio recordings are ok, but these guys all spent their lives on the road performing to live audiences night-in and night-out. Live is how their art is meant to be experienced. It isn't until the Beatles and The Beach Boys before rock music starts doing things in the studio that could never be done in a live setting. I'm glad we at least have this gem from Bo's prime.

  19. the style of that 6 in the 2sk216 seems a lot different from mine. But maybe they changed font... perhaps its a 7s2sk216 (7 2sk216 is series. in a single package)... 🤪 I just tested a few of mine. Setup on the DY294 : selected NPN gate and source connected to the emitter on the dy294 drain connected to collector on the dy294 and I get around 230V breakdown. spec sheet says 200V.... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- My peak dca75 in identify mode says the following: N-Ch Enhancement mode MOSFET Vgs(on)=0.557V at Id=5.01mA and Ig=0µA Vgs(off)=0.080V at Id=5.3µA gm=25.6mA/V at Id=3.0mA to 5.0mA Rds(on)=6.1Ω at Id=5.0mA and Vgs=8.0V with body diode

  20. I think it might well be thermal. About a month ago I replaced the groove tube el34s with modern production branded mullards and the bases of these run far hotter than the groove tubes so that could also have contributed more heat conduction to the leds... I did match all 6 leds in the amp by curve tracing on a peak dca75. The other 4 leds still work well and have very similar voltage drops meanwhile both the D24 leds (which are positioned close to the El34s) degraded. I did not raise any of the leds off the pcb and I think there was excessive heat conduction from the pcb into the underside of the led. This time i'm using leds from the same batch but have raised them off the pcb and time well tell if they degrade. I carefully de-soldered the degraded leds and curve traced them. As expected their characteristics had considerably changed compared to the rest of the leds in the bag. The D24 led on the left channel which is closest to the EL34 had the most change from new and the lowest voltage drop in circuit 1.4V in circuit, the righthand channel D24 is a little further from the EL34 and in circuit had 1.5V drop and is a little closer to a new led which has a drop of about 1.7V in circuit. To put the change into context I measured multiple leds from the bag and the curves almost superimposed over each other. So the drift in the D24 leds is significant.

  21. Cancel/refuse the shipment. Now that I have a 16” jointer I can whole heartedly recommend nothing less that a 20” jointer.

  22. Already planning a wood scrap, giant drawer, mobile jointer cabinet so I can have it done before the unit gets here tomorrow. I think it will be a disappointing unit, but the fancy ones you guys have would not be to be until February, months after I have moved on from woodworking.

  25. Milo and Otis, wow is all I can say. As for me, a gift for a disabled warrior to go with a wheelchair ramp for his house. Carving the handle was one thing but etching the trident was a nerve wracking endeavor. One shot with no do overs. Thanks Mark, you da man.

  26. Nice juxtaposition shots Al. I'm always a bit surprised at what we started with. It's funny how fast you can put something out of your mind. Marc, that trimless look is all the rage now in San Francisco. I like the clean, simplicity of it. It's more work than conventional trim, but worth it in a modern setting IMO. The best part of this job was doing it with Milo. I'm still flabbergasted at how quickly he picks things up. And his design sense is impeccable. It's not really work when you're having fun, except grouting!

I got the full set of Bow Clamps last night for $40, a 7x10 Wilton Wood Vice for $60 and a Leigh D4 Pro dovetail, finger joint tool for $120, all mint.

  31. An electrical horror story, from an Amazon page for a UK mains plug https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08M97WNB5?ref=em_1p_6_ti&ref_=pe_1229541_586024421&th=1 Part way down there is a how to wire it series of pictures. Live and neutral are the wrong way round. There are bare copper strands sticking out of the neutral (the one that incorrectly has the brown wire), and similarly the blue wire. And the cord grip doesn't secure the insulating jacket. In fact it contravenes just about every safety standard.
