  1. I think I have my Flair dialed in. The pressure gauge is a must have. This was a delicious shot made with light roast yirgacheffe, just from a grocery store, and ground just with a Bodum Bistro (you can get away with more with a manual machine, since you have complete control). It’s a pain in the ass to make coffee this way (and I use a NanoFoamer for milk), but I rarely drink coffee, and I love the Flair. I like that it’s a pain in the ass. 16/32 in 31 seconds, not quite 9 bar. Sweet, complex, moderate acidity, good texture. You couldn’t ask for a more perfect puck or a prettier shot (not that crema adds anything useful).

  6. I'm so sorry about Hunter, Todd. I'm dreading my Dunhill's exit, as he ages. I love him so much and want to pretend I'll have had him for more than a few short years, but he is... starting to fade.

  8. G2R1000MT17D GeneSiC Semiconductor | Discrete Semiconductor Products | DigiKey Will this serve as a sub for the C2M1000170D? Looks very similarly rated except for power dissipation of 44W instead of 69W.

  11. Mirka is far from the only maker of mesh sandpaper. I've been using it for over a decade. All the open areas between the weave is what allows it to stay more free of buildup than standard paper. Couple that with an attached vacuum, like that of the Festool, and that's even more efficient. Lifespan of the mesh is far greater than paper. Plus, I like that I don't have to bother with lining up the holes, like in the paper discs.

  20. Marc sent me a really nice piece of figured walnut to turn into record player parts. Part is going to be 1.35” thick but board was 2.5”. Seemed to be a waste to machine/plane it down to the correct thickness. Nice finally having the right tools for the job.

  22. As long as I don’t have to test them I’m out. Made this little plaque, first time doing a small intricate V carve. I was a little worried it was going to be a tear-out disaster but it actually turned out well.

  23. Initial testing on the balancer is looking good. I’ll need more testing to confirm, but the batteries are much closer than before. This should help to extend battery life.

  26. RIP to Tab "Hunter" In a double whammy after losing my mother-in-law Friday night, yesterday we had to put down our kitty. Tab was "my" boy, he loved to be cradled when I picked him up, and he would extend his paws out in a bit of a hug, and kneed my neck. But he loved pets and scratches from Karen as well, who always had better nails for it than me. We're very sad, but he was diagnosed last August with lung cancer, and given as little as 2 weeks back then. 9-10 months later, he was still with us. So we're also very glad to have had that extra time.
