  2. I do not take as many photos as I use to at racing events, but this caught my eye and I would be remiss not sharing. At last October's Texas Mile I had the pleasure of drooling over this Koenigsegg Regera. Truly an engineering feat....and...it comes with its own tuner (a breathing one with a charming accent...). The owner appeared disappointed with his speeds and left before the wind shifted to our benefit but we did get to see it make a few passes. HS

  8. Station Eleven The last thing I'd think would be worth watching would be a show about the fallout from another global pandemic. This one starts slow with lots of separate threads. The beauty is in how they all come together. There are some great moments. The cast is great. Lori Petty and David Cross as the mother and father of a stage troupe that circles a post-apocalypse Lake Michigan just works. Watching the show gives me some of the same feeling I get from reading a good book. I'm not surprised that the show-runner is a novelist. I'm excited to see what he will do next, and I think I'll be picking up one of Ms. St. John Mandel's books too.

  10. I do a 1350 or so on the OG for pour over, give or take a couple microns in burr distance . This is useful information, I’m sure. I did a French press for the first time in years a few months ago after Covered_ears goaded me into it. It was a delicious cup of coffee, but like, I ain’t got time for that shit. And I was merely startled, not burned, fortunately.

  11. ^^ My son is waiting for that....I am giving him my Elac Discovery endpoint, it does Roon (he can't use that when they move to their new apt.) and Spotify connect. I am also giving him a pair of speakers and a receiver. Sounded good with Spotify, but not as good as with Tidal/Roon.....

  16. I talked to a long time friend who had a stroke in early 2021. I cried. I wished him a 2022 that was on an upward slope. He replied that he was in a wheelchair. I said “I know!” I thought he was gonna die, and I’m very glad I was wrong.

  19. Yuuuuuum. I do something like that but encrusted with nuts. Basically just a sprinkle some sliced natural almonds on the 'wet' side after it goes in the pan, and smoosh it a little to get a little egg wash on the almonds. Flip it carefully, the almonds stick to the bread as it cooks and get all toasty.

  20. Yup, fucking cold. But I still got in a bike ride. The previous 22 winters have been downstairs on the trainer and I couldn't face another one.

  21. Today's adventure entails mortising 22 door blanks to fit in existing door frames. First I need to cut the blanks to proper width, as the old frames are about 1/4" smaller than the new blanks. Then I use my lockset mortising jig to drill out for the knobs. Then I use my hing mortising jig to router away the hinge inset. The self centering, spring loaded drill bit makes quick work of attaching the hinges.

  22. From all the research I was able to do, I don't believe this is the case with this. But I'm still going to disappoint everyone, because I can't think of another cordless tool that I could use, or fit in the van. This will go to restart the savings that got decimated.

  25. My new small obsession: Fat Cat Art. A HS FB friend followed this woman's page, she has a fat cat and is a painter (or does photoshopping well). She injects her cat into various scenes and famous paintings. Sadly, her cat (Zarathustra) just passed recently. But she's amazing and fun with her work, even some YouTube videos that had me chucking tons. I especially liked this because we used to have a fat orange cat named SOTA. Some of you may remember a multi-page thread around 2006 on H-F where SOTA was photoshopped to hell and back. He became known as The Rambo Bose Kitty, and had his 15 minutes of cat fame. Anyway, fun to browse: https://fatcatart.com/?lang=en

  28. Spent over 8 hours in the ER, from 1AM to ~9:30AM. I'm OK. Well "ok." Don't have much use of my right hand which makes typing super fun. Docs not sure what's wrong with me ("Gee knucks we coulda told you that in under 5 minutes.") but they think it might be somethi9ng autoimmune related. Got prescribed ROIDS which might make me cranky. I'm sure no one will notice the difference. I have some really gross pics of my hand, b ut I'll spare y'all. Need to go get my scrip filled.
