My house mate is laughing uncontrollably after I showed him this with a tape measure... his exact words were "isn't that a bit much"
I could make a small surf board with that much fiber glass LOL.
"isn't that a bit much"
Crikey! What kind of people do you hang out with?

Actually i was thinking of hiring a couple of has been fanboys...
Afterall, they have nothing else to do now...
Have pretty firm pricing on the heatsinks with machining, and the angle
pieces, will post soon.
If it sounds as projected there will be a lot of Fan Boys...

Personally, I wouldn't buy once unless it had 0-250VAC output
I see what you're getting at, how about this one? Just as a starting look.
I have a Mastech DC Power supply and they seem to make serviceable gear for the Hobbyist.

Hi,
I'm wanting to buy a VariAC. Here's one from MPJA, hows it look?
2KVA 0-130VAC VARIABLE TRANSFORMER-MPJA, Inc.
This one seems to have the amperage to do anything.

Well, I moved back to my old room with mom and pop for a while to avoid unnecessary rent and save money, so I know exactly what you mean...
...the only difference being that I am opening up a damn window. Where there's a will there's a way, I always say!
If you open a window in South Florida, I'm not sure you're helping things!

I have a pair of Treasure CV181-Z, I got them along with the 6CA7-Z for use with the SP ES-1.
I think they're not bad, like the 6CA7-Z. But, also like the 6CA7-Z, I don't think they're as good as many of the well-regarded Old Stock types.
I don't believe that the Treasure tubes sold in N. America are any different than the ones sold in China or elsewhere. Matching? Well, how much more closely can they match? The test result readings are labeled on the tube boxes and on the stickers on the tube bases.
The CV181-Z is more expensive than the 6CA7-Z. It's also huge, much bigger than the 6CA7-Z and closing in on the 300B. Drilling two holes on the cover of of a T1 or T1W to let a pair of 6SN7 through seems feasible, and might even be aesthetically OK. But you'll need giant holes for the CV181-Z.
Or do a Plexiglas cover.

While I was in the hospital I had the doctor haruspicate using my bowels, there is a perfectly good reason why I had them removed.
I don't know if you put your cans back together yet, but I used Dynamat Extreme on mine. I pulled off the Foil on both sides and used the "Tar" as a flat blob on the back of the driver. I'll send you some if you still want to damp em'

There will also be a mini ES-1 coming too (once I have some free time to draw up the PCB) which will only use triodes.
It's a mix of those two but more like the BH. It has a softer touch as it shows the drawbacks of lesser headphones not quite as brutally as the BH and the same goes for cheaper sources. Now whether this will be translated into the DIY amp is hard to say since they aren't direct clones.
I'm not sure how the HE90 would fare with the T2DIY but I'd guess it wouldn't be a great match. They need a sympathetic amp and besides a slight extra midrange presence I'd say the T2 is pretty much ruler flat. The SR-Omega should be an excellent match just as the SR-007 is.
The stock Stax T2 has a rather simple R-C-R-C PSU design for the high voltage part and runs the EL34's at 10W each. The DIYT2 will use fully regulated and tracking PSU's for the high voltage and run the EL34's at 20W each, same as the BHSE.
Now what this can be a good and a bad thing depending on what people prefer their amps to sound like. Take a KGSS and SRM-717 comparison, the circuits are very similar and yet some people don't like the KGSS and like the 717. The Stax amp has a similar PSU to the T2 while most KGSS amps use the same PSU as the old BH amps i.e. fully regulated.
Very interesting comparisons here.
How do you compare the 717 vs the KGSS?
Could you give a "personal" hierarchy of how you Tier them? Showing levels and also showing amps that occupy equivalent levels?
From reading most threads related to DIY or third party, you kind of get the idea not to get any STAX amps.

Sigh I think I'm going to have to pull out of my dream of a full fledged electrostatic. Added up how much I've spent on audio and it is a little bit terrifying :/ Almost 2x what I thought it was around...
Sorry for being a weak flaker guys.
You need to embrace the concept of denial my friend!

I'll source the Fire extinguisher on my own!

Actually if you set the pots pretty close before you solder them in, and you
don't have any shorts and everything is in the right place, it powers up just
fine the first time.
Is a Board Group buy being contemplated?

You, sir, are the only nice human around here. You may have dibs on the ES-1.
I got a multimeter some time ago, after I got an SRM-T1W and Spritzer explained how to bias the tubes. Apparently it's the same way with the BHSE, which also involves sticking the probes into the Stax output jack.
I'm not a complete idiot. An incomplete one, sure, probably, especially when it comes to tube amps and I barely know how to use the multimeter. But I was already accustomed to removing the top cover of the Aristaeus to bias its tubes, and the SP ES-1 has convenient receptacles on each side to put the probes into and knobs to adjust. I expected something similar.
I looked at the top cover of the BHSE amp section and didn't see the four tiny small gold screws inside the holes next to the tube sockets. I did see the twelve allen hex screws and figured that they're not meant to be unscrewed on a regular basis, unlike the Aristaeus' four simple philips-head screws. So, if the top cover stays put, and I don't see any knobs to turn to adjust bias, I thought there isn't anything I could do. Out of sight, out of mind. And nobody said anything!
Anyway, that's my explanation. It took me an hour to think up, so I hope it's convincing.

Perhaps YOU should go back and read your welcome pm again les...
I read just fine.

Les, you may not understand why, but none of the shots taken at you were gratuitous.
Calling somebody a name? Pretty much High School level of argument, and I would term that gratuitous.

Les, we're a fairly tolerant bunch of anything but total b.s., but don't fuck with people here. And, yes, jp11801 can fuck with you. Reread your welcome pm for explanation.
A guy takes a gratuitous BS 6th Grade schoolyard shot, he can get one back.

GRADO Head-F1 Series and it should be blurry and shallow (the engraving )
Just think how many people THAT would make happy!

I can't stop buying DACs.
A common affliction. Hopefully I'm done with that.

And just when I thought I had all my memories of 2003 thoroughly repressed, you dredge them back up. The horror. As to your larger point, your right. Les's posts were pretty douche-baggy, but it's not his fault. As for custom titles, how 'bout "Les Bartman"?
I think they look killer! I take full responsibility for wielding this level of Power...
I've attached a little video of some work I was doing in my backyard last night, just needed to straighten up a few things...

just got'em in Hong Kong! unfortunately a business trip, so I won't really be able to try them until the weekend. Just a snippet now - miles/dead/phish etc - but I already know these will be my main phones (now that I bailed on balanced). These rock, literally! btw, I don't mind the F1 at all.
I gotta admit, the engraving looks really nice on those!
The ultimate DIY? A Stax SRM-T2!
