  1. Yeah I would trade my un-cancellable Geek Out straight away for one any day of the week... maybe I can find some takers at the world's greatest headfone site.
  2. These guys have flooded the market the past year or so, this device is interesting - combines portable dac/amp/spdif converter. Seems like it would be a compromise in some places - kinda tempted to snag one just to try out for the usb/spdif component.
  3. With the esp950 was the 323s a good step up over the 252s?
  4. I am pretty happy with my Parasound ZDac. It has a unique sound of its own so it's not going to be the last word in "neutrality" or whatever but it sounds great, has tons of features for a DAC in the price range, isn't massive, and even has a HP out if you need it.
  5. Sent an email to see if it is possible to cancel my Geek Out order. I'd much rather use that money to support my hookers and blow habit.
  6. Did not realize how much of a shit show these guys have turned out to be. Wondering if it's possible to cancel my original Geek "out" now. This latest PR referral thing is just icing on the cake, just screams slimy. I had my reservations before but this just goes against everything I want to believe the hobby should be about.
  7. I appreciate what they are trying to do but I can't help but feeling that the backers are really more or less playing into LH's hands - as in they orchestrated all of this from the start and came up with a real clever way of pulling it off. The ol' make em' think they came up with the idea trick.
  8. My suggestions: Make sure to read up on reviews - road noise with some tires is much worse than others and is horrible for long trips IMO. Be an alignment nazi and don't go over curbs - will save you $ in the long run. If the alignment shop says you need X bushings replaced you should do it; the more new rubber the better your tire life and handling will generally be. Never overlook tire pressure and check frequently. You'd be surprised how long you can get by on super shitty worn tires with proper inflation. A brand new tire that is badly under-inflated won't last you long and is will blow out on the freeway. As for pricing you can haggle somewhat with most tire places... try using online tools to search for lower prices. They always get you on the warranty/disposal fee/mount and balance. IMO the warranty isn't a bad thing if you have generally bad luck with your tires and drive all over the place. Hope this was useful
  9. Likely a huge improvement! Any idea of back-of-the-envelope BOM cost yet?
  10. I currently have a d/ac 2000 which I paid way too much for. It's a pretty good dac all said and done. There's not a lot of info out there, at least not that I could find. Some will say the 1600/1100 were actually better than the 2000 but I don't know one way or another what is the truth. I have owned the 1100/1600/1500/2000 in that order and not at the same time. I loved the 1100 which I picked up for a fair price and am content with the 2000 today. I regret selling all of them and today's "market value" on ebay is the craziest thing I have ever seen. I don't recommend playing that game because it inflates the prices for no good reason. I snagged this d/ac 2000 because I was somewhat desperate to hear it and paid dearly. For the money, there's better out there for sure.
  11. Don't do it Shelly! It's not quite received my stamp of approval Which I know doesn't mean all that much heh.
  12. Components matching ftw! My hodge podge of divergent manufacturers' gear is an eyesore in comparison.
  13. Seems like many of the DACs on the audiophile market have some sort of "extremely low jitter" or "jitter free" claim. If I had to guess this has been claimed all the way back to the 90's. What exactly would a flawless cock look like
  14. This thread is pretty fun reading/sad at the same time. http://www.head-fi.org/t/546938/apuresound-complaint-thread-customers-with-outstanding-items-or-money-only/60
  15. Best video yet. I'm off to sell my house! BTW. I learned the hard way do not plug in an AC power adapter into your DC device. My Mini-DAC no longer loves me.
  16. Hey Leo, You should be able to disassemble the hp1k's pretty easily, remove the pads and loosen the hex screws. That might help with the cleaning. Having recently acquired both a SHA-1 and an EC/SS I have come to realize that many of the comments made in years past aka "the best Grado amp" were likely overblown and generalized. I still appreciate both amps however in different aspects. The SHA-1 I have is bone stock and so far has been trouble free -- I think that alone is a major improvement over the SHA-Gold which had more complexity in the design. I don't even like the EC/SS with Grados but it really emphasizes treble sparkle when I want it, the hissing noise floor of the amp is pretty bad. The SHA-1 is also nowhere near neutral but it does do well with Grados, I think Recstar nailed it about it being too hot and gritty.
  17. Stupid DACs. I thought I learned my lesson last year. Clearly I did not.
  18. I have absolutely no expertise here but would the upsampling have something to do with how it handles jitter? Doesn't sound like you can defeat upsampling either. At least you can do that with the Nuwave.
  19. That's weird. I swear last week I was looking all over to find more info about this DAC and magically I can now find some. http://www.parasound...soundZ/zdac.php http://www.avguide.c...und-debuts-zdac "At the core of the Zdac's design is Clockflawless, an exceptional new method to eliminate jitter invented by Holm Acoustics in Denmark. It preserves the source signal in bit-perfect form, while completely restoring the timing information in the stream of the original recording. All timing errors introduced and accumulated during the transport phase are removed for SPDIF and Optical as well as USB." How much did it cost through AA?
  20. May have to re-do my cable now, wish the amphenol plug had a different design for getting the leads soldered into the pins.
  21. FWIW I really regret letting go of the old 1100 I had. From the value perspective the 1600 was not worth the premium considering the DAC has no USB or hi-res support. The 1100 was half the cost or less and wasn't so expensive that it's shortcomings bothered me.
  22. He's using eBay's dumb shipping estimator. I think one of his buyer Q's was about the shipping. Lucky for me I am one state awayat around $32!
  23. Shit just got bidded on-sight! Larry - did you feel the Stello DA100S is > the Apogee Mini Dac? I had the DA100S way back when but I only had it a year or so.
  24. Somebody somewhere has to know something about this DAC.... Only marketing info around the intrawebs so far.
  25. So there IS a point where one can have too many DACs.
