So that was absolutely awesome! One of the most enjoyable things I've ever done.

The kids were a fantastic audience. Many of them almost mesmerized. Just looking out at the looks on their adorable little faces as I dramatized and accentuated the presentation, was incredibly rewarding. Almost a kind of high. This could be an addictive experience. Another surprise was how many parents sat and listened, instead of browsing the store. Many of which took the time to thank and compliment me on my presentation.

This experience has had me wondering about giving up on my first career choice. Teaching was what I originally planned as my career. I did get my BA degree, minoring in child psychology and majoring in education. But after some experience as a substitute teacher, decided against that.

I probably made the right decision for myself, as I can't imagine a career not building beautiful things. And I don't imagine that teaching would always be as rewarding an experience as what I encountered today.

This is definitely something that I want to continue with, especially after retiring. I kind of feel like I'm coming down from a euphoric high. So much fun!

I ended up reading two books, with a short intermission in between.

Both around 40 pages, with the second being a very quick read.

Queens and their story times... SMH.

;) Glad you had a good time! Didn't know about the educational dreams at one point! Though, I do think it'd be funny if you became a lawyer in retirement.

Just 2.0.  It's a 2020 Roubaix S-Works Team - found it on FB marketplace with ~500mi on it (allegedly) and started stalking it more than 6 months ago.  Picked it up for 1/3 MSRP and I can't find a mark on it and it came with a few minor extras.  I also managed to source a very lightly used set of period correct Dura-Ace Di2 to equip it with and other than the battery holder and a few tiny pieces, I've got everything I need.  That box arrives Monday and my shop should be finishing the build Thursday.  I can't wait to ride it.

Fuck, man. Your current bike is SO hot, yet the ne wone is just... man. I had to come back to look at it again (I may be a drink or 3 in.)

    I fucking approve!

Also, the Future Shock 2.0 does not suck.

I just had the most awful thought:  the first millenials are now old enough to get married and have children.  M:TNG are being born NOW.

I'm a Xennial. I know a lot of Grandparents I went to school with.

My brother was born in 84. He's going to be a grandfather soon.

TL;DR: You're all (me, included) fucking old.

  4. RIP my uncle, Jack Slatton

    https://www.williamsonandsons.com/tributes/Jackie-Slatton

This happened just before the holidays, and it was a bit of a mad house since. Sadly, I wasn't able to make it back to TN with last-minute flights at Christmas/New Year's are crazy, but he was the glue that held all the families together. My mom is just lost without him, as she was his last remaining tie to her immediate family. They were really close.

I've been talking to my cousin, too. Uncle Jack had a heart attack, and my cousin Jeff was at the house. He wound up giving him CPR for 20 minutes before the ambulance showed up, but it was too late.

Jack was sober for just under 30 years (he just needed about 6 more months for that milestone), married for over 50, and was a good dude. I raised a few non-alcoholic beverages in his honor these past few weeks, and a couple proper ones as well.

He was a good dude, and I miss him.

  5. Happy 21st birthday to my daughter Zoë! I know I've known a lot of you since she was around 2-3 years old, and somehow she made it through to adulthood.

Here she is at her birthday dinner with her future MIL, having her first legal drink! (And one of the very few she's ever had.)

I'm really proud of her, and she had a good day. Her past two birthdays have been bad (tested positive for COVID in 2021 during her fall break an hour before she was leaving for the airport to fly home, and her now fiancee (Michael, above) had just driven home to CO, so she wound up in AZ all alone on her first birthday away from home.

Today? Today started a new trend in her having good ones. ❤️

    Yes.

    Well ...

If I picked a side, how would I justify that "further research is required" ?

Contrary to my dismissive stance of Steve's "Brent always <something queen related joke>" eventual reply, I do have to say that she was correct on this one.

    Devon? P'shaw.
