Could someone check whether the SR-404's headband fits on the Lambda Nova Signature? I broke my headband and need a replacement

Try getting the HD650 pads replaced too, they're probably worn out by now.

That is somewhat reminiscent of what I heard from the SR-X, but it could be specific to my ears since the SR-X are very sensitive to placement. I don't have an SR-X anymore to compare them, and my amplification system is out of order anyway...

I thought the SR-X's highs were rather strange, like there's a strange null. I prefer the SR-5 over the SR-X by a reasonable margin. Its strange that you're describing them as veiled, though. Did you disassemble the drivers themselves? They are using the same drivers as the SR-X.

Probably resonance in the housing... so yeah, that's what they sound like. You could swap the pads with O2 pads if you have a bunch of those lying around.

So... how do you guys get balanced drivers when recoating the drivers? I've tried to recoat my SR-5 drivers a few times now, and the balance has been an absolute pain in the ass to get right.

Wait, how did you crack the drivers open in the first place? Aren't they glued shut?

So, I've recoated a formerly fubar'ed pair of SR-5 drivers with Staticide 6300, and it seems to have changed the sound of the drivers - in the GP frame (which I extracted an untouched pair of drivers from), it sounds a great deal less bright than the drivers that lived there previously. I've already tried recoating these drivers with lesser antistatic solutions before, and the balance would never come out right. With Staticide however, it just "saturates" after 2-3 coats, and the balance just rights itself... within this data point, anyway.

A refurbed Pioneer M22 does have very low noise though - low enough to drive anything short of sensitive IEMs without any hint of noise. I would love to try my M22 with mini maggies some day.

I used some heatshrink with a small piece of cardboard to keep the Y-split in place. The SR007 pads are worth it for the comfort alone imo, and sound-wise they're definitely an improvement over stock (or HM5) pads.

I bought an extension cable and simply loped off one side A Lambda cable might work too. The SR-3/5 sits somewhere between the SR-X and SR-Lambda - it sounds more airy and images a bit wider/taller than the SR-X, but somewhat less so than the Lambda. The SR-5 is the most fun-sounding Stax for me, especially for electric guitar, but I'm a little biased since they're also the first Stax headphones I've ever owned. (note that I've never owned a fully functional SR-3, but from what I heard it was like a much more midrange-centric version of the SR-5) The "roll-off" I heard on the SR-X might be more of an upper midrange dip... but the FR never sounded totally "right" to me, and that includes the SR-X pro as well.

The Gamma pro wasn't the most appropriate comparison in retrospect, as the tone is much more like the SR-X's, minus the strange roll-off + peakiness that the SR-X has. The ECR-800 is probably the smoothest sounding pair of headphones I've owned, even the O2mk1 somehow sounds slightly tense in the highs by comparison. As far as technicalities go, think the ambience comes through a little better than my heavily modified SR-3 (GP driver, wide cable, O2 pads, and de-grilled), but its hard to match volumes exactly since the ECR is somewhat more sensitive. Soundstaging is highly variable since its almost entirely dependent on the pads - the HM5 pads yield good results, as do O2 pads. With the stock pads they're identical to the SR-X in this respect.

A much smoother version of the Gamma pro/SR-X pro - similar levels of extension, but much nicer in the highs. Actually, I'm going to have to take some time to listen to these again, I haven't taken them out for a while. It takes something like 24-48 hours for the phones to fully charge up...

The ECR-800 works just fine without the ECA-80 on normal bias, once they've been recabled (which has to be done due to the gooey cable). The other issue with the ECR-800 is that the plastic headband also falls apart, so you're going to need to replace that too... or just keep it as a museum piece without ever using it.

It has been pointed out that DACs that were supposedly "measuring great" actually had worse looking measurements than the Yggy though, and JA thinks the AD5791s are obsolete...

if he was more fluent in English, people would see him more clearly for the flaming asshole he is. When someone asked him whether the "HE-6" would be $2000 better than the SR-009, he said that his product wouldn't have to be returned for repairs as often, at least.

Pure acetone should not leave a residue. I found someone saying WD40 softens the stuff from a quick google. Don't you have a hairdryer? It may not get as hot as a real heat gun but that still gets pretty hot.

Wait till you get a Sigma DP compact lol. The detail and texture on my DP2M makes it so very satisfying to pixel peep.

I'd imagine that Schiit might eventually release a lower priced multibit DAC. This is supposed to be the best possible DAC they could make, why skimp on the chip?

I'm just happy to see an R2R dac using a genuine state of the art chip that doesn't cost $5K or more. I'll get one eventually.
