  1. I will, but I won't be able to until after the 24th.
  2. Surprisingly, about the same as my other Staxen. I tried pro bias, they didn't seem to mind it too much but I didn't dare to leave it on any longer than a minute.
  3. So... if anyone remembers, I snagged a pair of ECR-800s from YJ, and the headband somehow broke on me. I've gotten them repaired by a very skilled technician, and recabled with a Gamma pro cable. I can now confirm that they will run off Stax amplifiers, on normal bias I've also replaced the connectors on the Sony transformer box with Justin's teflon Stax connectors, so the next test now is to run a Stax headphone off that box.
  4. Is it too late to say I want a couple too?
  5. Ugh, one of the headphone struts just went "snap" while I had the headphones on my head. Why the hell did Sony choose to use metallic struts for their lower end ECRs and plastic for the TOTL ECR-800?
  6. Sorry for the late reply, but here they are: After the headphones have been properly charged up, the highs aren't wooly anymore and I'd describe these headphones as a more pleasant sounding SR-Xmk3 pro. Tracks which I couldn't really stomach on my staxes sound a lot nicer on these, possibly because the penta-shaped driver has fewer innate resonance peaks? Mind you, all of these impressions are still being based off a Lepai 2.1 amp driving the ECA-80.
  7. Ugh, yeah. It feels more like putty than cable right now. Is it possible to salvage the original plug though? I want to keep using the ECA-80.
  8. Hay guise Even though its only being driven by a $10 ebay amp, dat soundstage... the highs are a little woolly at the moment but the bass and mids sound pretty good, I'll bring in an old receiver to supplement my amplification options tomorrow.
  9. Have been really tempted to bid on one of these babies on YJ. They're practically dirt cheap there compared to Western prices.
  10. Spritzer, how would you rate that transformer box with Lundahls that you recently sold here? Was it a decent option for driving O2s?
  11. Yes, that's what I've been doing with my T1S Pretty sure it hasn't blown up but I'm not sure whether they're any better than good old japanese 6CG7s.

    Battlefield 3

Never played the previous games, but even with the nerfs, some games are so god damn vehicle-dominated its painful. Just wait till you come up against your first genuinely-good chopper pilot.
  13. Pity that I never truly found them (sig, nova sig, pro) to my liking, compared to the SR-5/x, but man they were comfy. I had the HD650s for a while and ... really didn't like them very much, my opinion of them is pretty much what Beefy said but extended to all of my stats. I really need a new gamma pro driver to replace my semi-faulty one on the SR-5... Vaguely on topic post: the person who runs the local Jaben says that everyone who bought the LCD-2s through them ended up hating it, and that he also greatly prefers the HE-6 over them. The HE-6 was very underpowered when I heard them, but I thought the sound sig was fairly reminiscent of my O2.
  14. http://www.magnepan.com/model_mini_maggie I know its too late now but god damn, these look tasty
  15. And these people wonder why the grey market is so much more attractive. http://www.pricejapan.com/front/e_result_goods.php?in_category=&in_maker=25 Japanese store that ships overseas, not that they really need to with the number of deputy services available.
  16. Mmm, as far as low end speaker manufacturers go Edifier aren't that bad (hearsay YMMV and all that jazz). I'd welcome affordable electrostatic edifier speakers.
  17. I got a new set of O2 cables via EIFL, can't see why they won't continue selling those unless Stax pulled the plug on them.
  18. I like my SR-X pro, but the SR-X normals somehow have a certain quality in the midrange that's just... more alluring? It has been a while since I've heard the normals though, since I've given them away. How much of an improvement can I expect by swapping out the SR-X Pro's kettle cable for something nicer? The top end still sounds a bit muffled sometimes. Having said that I'd rather not modify a collector's item like the SR-X pro if I can help it...
  19. I think that's the problem my pair has. I hope there's nothing special about the strip of wire they're using.
  20. Out of interest, has anyone successfully repaired a pair of drivers with a serious level of channel imbalance? I'm wondering whether it'd be worth my while to try to restore my pair of hugely imbalanced gamma pro drivers.

    COD Black Ops

I don't play COD:BO, but anyway... how is it that no one decided to lob a nade into the spot you were camping in? Sure you had a suppressor but don't they have killcam? And they did see you a couple times too.
  22. What is that knob-like thingy in the middle? Edit: Scratch that, it looks a heck lot more sturdy than the drivers I've seen on the SR-5/X at least. One thing I'm curious about, if we increased the bias voltage on the O2, would it make it easier to drive?
  23. Mmm, truth be told the O2 isn't that great with binaural recordings. A more "honest" phone like the SR-X actually works better there, imo.
