  1. To echo Spritzer, the SR-3 - basically any of the "round driver" Staxen except the SR-X (which isn't that bad even from a "fun" perspective really).
  2. I prefer the SR-5/X/3 and O2 to the lambdas I've heard (pro, sig, nova sig, 303), so that's perfectly fine.
  3. If only they'd make something like a smaller, easier to drive O2 instead :/
  4. Still better than the 6CG7's 300V, or 400V on the ECC99 for that matter.
  5. So are you saying that the SRM-T1 is a better amp that just needs "a few" mods? >_> The 6SN7GTA/B works really well on the T1, but it still distorts audibly (on transients) around the 12'o clock mark on O2s.
  6. *Edit* nevermind. I suppose its a good thing for me if its easy enough for KG to build two versions in 4 days (going by the date of his reply on the head-fi thread).
  7. That's what I thought. Besides, a rolloff doesn't compensate for our hearing, it only exacerbates our own rolloff.
  8. He did also say that sources with a flat FR "don't sound like music", because we don't have flat hearing :S

  10. Too bad the poster who bought it disappeared soon after buying it. <3 the original SR-X pro - now I'm just debating whether I should fashion a cable using the other half of my extension cord, and upgrade the SR-X's cord. For anyone who cares, the shuguang CV-181Zs are settling nicely in my SRM-T1S. They make my old RCA 6SN7GTAs sound harsh and shrill by comparison, and the bassiness seems to have gone too. Having said that, I'm not sure if the upgrade is worth getting, compared to saving it up for a new ExStata.
  11. What makes you think the offramp isn't going to finish last in that pack?
  12. http://www.head-case.org/forums/headphone-amplification/7028-mysteriously-musical-amplifier-moth-300b-problem.html Well, I'm hearing the same symptoms on my Stax T1S now. This amp has no output transformers so... what's going on here <.< And no, its not just the new Shuguang CV181-Z that's doing this, the tube I was using before this was doing it too, albeit less audibly (probably because its only half the size).
  13. Stereophile: McCormack Micro Integrated Drive headphone amplifier Apparently its a decent preamp too.
  14. On a more interesting note, the tubes (I think?) are actually vibrating to the music (I can hear the snares) when I turn up the volume.
  15. I've installed the Shuguang CV181-Zs on my T1S, and Elephas is right, they do look a tad ridiculous But I could get used to that. ~1 hour in, the tubes sound a lot bassier than the RCA 6SN7GTAs they replaced. Haven't noted anything else yet.
  16. Rille Amp HiEnd-KHV f I like the HAL9000 look on the panel
  17. I got my O2 mk1 pads from EIFL, so I'd assume that you can do the same for the O2 mk2 with them - if you're lucky enough to get a reply off them, anyway. You could try emailing pricejapan too.
  18. Ugh, my SRM-X Pro has developed a channel imbalance, and there aren't any convenient balance knobs anywhere on the amp (I've checked inside). Should I panic?
  19. Things I've eaten that haven't been mentioned yet: natto and smelly tofu. Natto is quite nice, but smelly tofu I haven't quite gotten a hang of yet. It tastes exactly like what it smells like, which is unpleasant to say the least. On the less bizarre side, durians. Can't quite understand why some people find it unpalatable
  20. There seems to be a fair bit of variation in the headbands - some of them grip waaaay too loosely, while some have a vice grip on the head. It just depends on how much the previous owner stretched them out I guess. As for the earpads, I think the older pads bring out the treble a tad more, with the loss of some bass since they don't seal as well as the new pads, and bring your ears just a little closer to the drivers. I'm not sure which one I prefer, actually.
  21. Photos of the taps: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v29/evil-zen/DSC_3988.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v29/evil-zen/DSC_3987.jpg
  22. A friend of mine needs some help with changing the mains voltage on his 717, could you guys help him out a bit? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v29/evil-zen/DSC_3981.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v29/evil-zen/DSC_3982.jpg For some reason, putting the jumpers in positions 2,5 (for 240V) or 3,5 (for 220V) doesn't work for him. But since the 117V setting (which it is configured for right now) works the 120V windings should still be intact, I think. I'll post pictures of the transformer taps as soon as he gets back to me.
  23. BC 1 wasn't released for PC so I wouldn't know either, but judging by the trailers I think BC 2 should be great fun.
  24. I would have bought it if they kept the dedicated server features from COD4 :/ There just isn't a way to get decent latencies if I had to play on IW servers based in the US from Australia/Malaysia, and whoever it was who thought up the 9v9 cap deserves a shovel in the face. Bad company 2, now there's a title that probably deserves my money.
