  1. Sorry, just can't help but comment on good ole Lou (ltucci1924). I hope he is okay, considering that 1924 is the year of his birth, from what I understood about him. Obviously in his old age he was getting a bit senile, but gotta love the crazy old man that stirs up crap. I have not seen any of his posts in a while though, which leads me to believe he is probably laying low for a bit while he recovers.
  2. Actually, not quite. He brought the seller down to $450. Ugh, I was maybe 15 minutes late on that one. Ah well.
  3. mmmm...beeeeets.... I personally have never agreed with markl's impressions and how he hears things. Even though I have never heard the denon d5000's, the way he describes the R10's, compared with how I hear them, makes me believe that I would not get the d5000's stock or modded whatsoever. I will leave it at that.
  4. Man, I almost think I would rather converse with trose than 909. David, I have absolutely no idea what in hell you are talking about. Your gibberish sounds like Billy speak but more pretentious and somewhat more grammatically correct.
  5. Oooh, very tempting, that is for sure. They usually go for 250+ on headfi. He's local too. We will see.
  6. I concur - sorry 909 but your way off base. The predator is nowhere near the sophistication of Justin's pico. To modify nate's analogy, I believe comparing the predator to the pico would be like comparing the bithead to the max dac. The predator appears to be similar to the hornet but with less available voltage swing. Justin believes the pico amp section to be on par if not better than the AE-2.
  7. I read about that in the newspaper. Apparently the Chicago Lyric is being applauded as most opera houses are trying to stay away from the diva mindset that has dominated opera in previous years. Today's audience expects more from their opera stars than just standing there and singing. They need to act and be able to move and dance. That requires hard work, and diva like behavior from someone like Gheorghiu will no longer be tolerated by opera houses. The Chicao Lyric essentially was making a statement, saying they could care less who you are, you need to make all rehearsals and work your butt off if you want to perform there. In the long-term, this will be for the best.
  8. You rock! - you should post it on head-fi. Yeah.
  9. You don't have to - I didn't pay anything figuring it was lossy mp3. Regardless, the quality is pretty good. The album is somewhat minimalistic at points so you don't really hear any compression or loss in dynamics. I will support them when the official CD release comes out and buy a nice copy then.
  10. August 2001 - Radiohead - Grant Park, Hutchinson Field, Chicago
  11. That is what I figured, but how is that process figured out? Who decides where someone is placed on a list? Is there a very detailed manual of some sort that the hospitals use endorsed by the Canadian government that lists which injuries and diseases take priority? What kind of standard operating procedure and enforcement of policy is in place to ensure that those who truly need treatment before others are treated 1st, and ultimately whose decision does that fall upon? I am not starting shit, I am genuinely curious and merely seeking info from local canadians on how that process works. In America, as long as you have the money and coverage your pretty much treated as soon as possible.
  12. I love the concept of a socialized healthcare system, and I think Canada as a whole is a very clean and beautiful country. But there are issues with that system as well. Essentially, aren't you put on a waiting list and depending upon your injury or sickness, you may have to wait a bit for treatment? Even though not the same, my cousin in Denmark (they have a similar system of healthcare set up) had to wait 6 months before treatment of her sprained ankle. Also, I believe there is a company in lower Canada that offers patients service sooner by bringing them to a facility in Buffalo. The company was toted as being very profitable, however cannot think of the name right now.
  13. Oooh, 45's are nice tubes. Work really well for headphones since they only output about 1.8 watts run at max, which is plenty for headphone drive. Very linear sounding tube and musically engaging. I heard the later moth si2a3H that can run 2a3's or 45's and it kicked ass with the 45's, I preferred it over the 2a3's.
  14. Eh, I really just enjoy reading and lurking. If I feel like I can contribute to a thread or conversation, than I do. But I kind of have phased out of headphone listening as I essentially have sold off my entire system. I like audio and music discussions, off topic is great, but for me its all about "less is more" nowadays. I am aiming for the "quality of posts : quanitity of posts" ratio award. If you have such a thing. Also, last time I checked, don't I have to be tripping on lysergic diethylamide getting ready to jump into pool of water before I qualify as a golden god?
  15. Hey Todd I have no problems with you whatsoever. We've had one transaction on headfi and it went well. But to be honest I really don't bother reading your posts, after a while it gives me a headache and I feel I have a lower audio IQ afterwards. Hope you don't take offense. However, I think you are making a very bad generalization about this place, as it is not 2nd rate at all. If anything, this place is like the high end version of headfi. Everyone here has great sources, has probably listened to the top high end cans if not all of them, carries plenty of comparative audio experience, and the guys here simply know their stuff. Yes you have to sift through the gossip and the hate and the vulgar language, but underneath it all these cats really know what audio is all about. The best way of putting it is the signal to noise ratio appears to be much higher here than at headfi, where users with very little listening experience with some of the higher end stuff really bring down some of the conversations. This place is not for everyone, but if you truly are interested in being part of a community that embraces the finer nuances of audio fidelity especially with headphones, you can find it here. If not, headfi is always there and is not going anywhere. But I love this place, and the majority of my time and posts is centered here and not headfi.
  16. Not only that, but it actually isnt really designed correctly. There is a resistor, I believe its 120 ohms (might be 240 ohms), that is connected to the headphone output. The reason being is that it reduces hum with low impedance cans like grados, because power supply hum leaks through to the output and you can hear it. However, now that your output impedance is overly high on the the grados the bass sounds rubbery and the overall sound is very loose with somewhat bloated bass. So Craigs version would have an external power supply, run the output directly from the transformer taps, and not have to rely on using a high resistor on the output to reduce hum and noise, thus keeping damping factor high even with low impedance cans.
  17. BTW - Craig was supposed to be building a 300b transformer coupled amp but apparently it didnt pan out or maybe he got sidetracked - go figure. Sometimes he builds one of something and forgets about making it commercial. You might want to ask him about it and see whats up. His goal was to make a 300b that was better than the cary for about half the price, something along those lines.
  18. I really loved the sound of the L3000's out of my moth 2a3, so jpak I think going with Craig would be a good idea. Craig apparently knows how to design decent stuff so you should be okay Transformer and OTL is really a preference thing. In the end, I think I really preferred the sound of the moth 2a3 over the Zana. The Zana is dead neutral and more "accurate" but the transformer coupled moth has a warmer, fuller, tone, the whole cliched debate of "accuracy" vs "musicality" if you wish to go there. Tango iron is no longer available, they went out of business, you might be able to score a set on ebay but you know how that story goes. If you have the dough audionote iron should be at least near the same level. Craig likes the electraprint iron, which he used for his moth amps, and since he already has a connection with Jack from electraprint he would be able to arrange getting you some custom iron made. I believe Craig told me that the HD2 with electraprint transformers comes very very close to jp #'s with the tango. I think ER's idea of B52 cut in half is also a great option! You could cut it in half and donate the other half to postjack or something to include with his giant blackgate he was planning on building. Or maybe you should just get a raptor. Oh wait same thing... ...damn it, you've won this round...
  19. Well guys can't say I didn't try and warn him...as you were
  20. todd, I am not sure if you have had the chance to read some of the threads here on headcase, but lets just say the culture here is a bit "different." I would stop while you are ahead
  21. You didn't know? It is rich in HGH man, its the new thing.
  22. Yeah he is totally chill and nonchalant about that, I seriously believe this experience has damaged his soul. That is some f'd up shit. That story with the sorority girl, man thats hardcore, not a single sound?
  23. Dude why you have to out me like that here on a public forum? I will leave negative feedback later.
  24. I concur. I almost think they are gay to be honest with you. There was one guy who put posters of chicks on his front door to his door room. Are you trying to hide something buddy? Girls don't dig that stuff, they like beer and chocolate and shit, music posters are the way to go too.
