  1. Finally recieved my Nook Color on Friday...have it running the latest CM7 nightly now. Even at 1200MHz, it seeks a bit sluggish at times, compared to my HTC Thunderbolt, also on CM7, on the same wifi network, doing the same tasks. That said, the screen size and resolution are a boon, though the screen seems to have a somewhat desaturated color palette.

Anyone have any must-do tweaks, tips, or apps for the Nook Color?

You have to OC it to make it run smoothly. You really need a dual core to get a tablet to run smoothly without OC.

1200mhz is overclocked. stock is 800.

You really cant get it faster than what you have it at right now. The bottleneck seems to be the gpu. Not really a huge problem for me but as you probably realized, its much less fun to use.

  2. And I didn't even do any cable organizing, besides tying up the slack on the fan wires. I just shoved everything over into the unused 5.25" bays or behind the drive cage. laugh.png

ahh, the "secret rat nest" method of cable management. afro.gif

let us know if you can break the 5ghz barrier :)

  3. Finally broke down and used my last paycheck to order parts for a new PC. One can only deal with playing 2-3 year old games at low framerates on mediocre settings for so long. I've been out of the loop too long so who knows how poorly I chose, but I ended up ordering dual gtx560s, i5-2500k, 8gb ram, 115gb ssd, 2tb hdd, etc, plus the various other sundries to make it all work. facepalm.png

nice. I have the 2500k (oc-ed to 4.8) as well (with 16gb ram) for running some programs for school and dayum its fast.

sidenote: surprisingly enough, the integrated graphics on the 2500k is pretty darn good, for casual gaming at least :)

  4. Not as serious as those in Irene, but made me pretty happy.

Got my Powermac G5 running again. The Apple store "genius" sure as hell couldn't kitty.jpg After getting it to boot last Sunday (wife took it down there) after reseating the RAM, only comment was "can't get parts for these anymore". Maybe if you built the parts correctly, this wouldn't be an issue facepalm.png

Probably only temporary, as I will wind up needing to pull the logic board and fixing some of the goddamn leadfree solder issues around the DIMM sockets (184 pins x 4). I used a heatgun to heat these up, reinserted the memory (after allowing it to cool). Boot... yay! First time in a week. Passed memtest twice on the RAM I have installed. Sent the 2G back to Crucial, so will reinstall when the new (or old) ones return.

my mom had a problem with her g5 a few years back. I asked a genius about it. He asked, "whats a g5?" facepalm.png

  5. ^ Nice! That's what I play with every time I stop at an Apple Store (along with an iPad) and drool over. The last time I was at an Apple Store, I let my toddler play with a display iPad - employees didn't look too amused as Libby slapped at the screen with her hands/fingers.

Yup, my thinkpad display died so it was a good excuse to get the new macbook air.

  6. I'm refusing to give Logitech my money ($20 per cable + $6 shipping) every few months. It's pretty ridiculous that a cable breaks as easily as this one. The first time I complained, they just mailed me an entire refurbished Triplefi 10 Pro, which was very kind of them, but not going through 2 sets of replacement cables, I don't want to spend any more money for some throw away cable that's not at a throw away price.

I think I've bought at least 5 cables from them already. Just so very annoying.

  7. It seems that the stock battery has much less capacity (890 mah) than the third party ones (3000 mah) as you said. But it doesnt seem like the third party batteries are that expensive (~$40).

Also thanks for the heads up on the hf g10. :)

  8. Hey guys! I dont know anything about video recording so hopefully I can get some help from you guys.

My parents have been looking for a good video camera that can record for more than 2 hours of high quality HD video on a single charge. They've been using the 5d mkii as a video camera but its limited by the 10-12 min limit per recording (for HD video). The video camera doesnt need to have any pro features like xlr inputs or anything but a 3.5mm mic input would be pretty nice. Budget is up to $1.5k (for something thats high quality and built well)

    Thanks!

  9. There wasn't much schlepping involved, it was only about 0.25mi from a parking area ;)

However I did schlepp the D700 and a Gorillapod Focus about 6000ft up the side of Mt Shasta a few days later to be able to take this:

    awesome!

Can you give a quick rundown on how you go the pictures? exposure/shutterspeed/any pp?
