  2. I would like to say thanks to Ujamerstand for the Bom Lil Knight for the boards. I am about to order all the parts and hope for the best with this build. I was hoping someone would tell me the right transformer to order from SumR?

Jay, I posted the transformer specs from SumR on the main KGSSHV thread Please note that transformer is targeted for a 500V output build. If you are building the standard 450V version, you will probably wanted a little lower voltage at the secondaries (probably 420V instead of 450V). I have the transformers in hand, and I should finish up the power supply this week. I hope to test it this weekend, and I will post how they work.

  3. Thanks!! I was worried I wouldn't be able to get a lot of this stuff. 2sk216 and 2sj79 also back in stock smile.png

The BOM says 2sk246GR but I was wondering if 2sk246 or 2sk246BL is a suitable substitute?

N3rdling, I bought a (100) of these things from Zhou Fang of DIY Audio for a good price. I am planning to go through and test all of them, and do a rough match. Seeing that we only need (4) of them, I could probably send you a set. Just shoot me a PM if you are interested.

  4. Perfect. My O2's are the MK2's (or some people call them the MK2.5's) and not the SR-007A. I figured it's going to take Tyll a good couple weeks to get measure the 009's and O2 mk1's. I can send mine along after that.

I'm very interested to see how the different O2 makes compare. We need to find someone with the 007A's to send them in to Tyll for measuring, so we'll have the full O2 lineup. :)

  5. Sounds like the repair on my 007's should finally be finished by sometime next week (still not holding my breath since it's Yamas). It would be nice to listen to them for a couple weeks since I've been without them for the past month. I can probably send them along your way after you've had a chance to measure the SR-009's.

  6. WARNING TO ALL...

    http://gilmore.chem....du/dsc_2288.jpg

The one on the left is real, the one on the right is fake, and breaks down at 200 volts.

birgir and i got nailed on this, about half of the ones i bought were fake, and most of

birgir's (if not all of them) are fake.

Evidently there are also 2sa1486 fakes out there, i don't have any pictures of the

    fakes.

    Get yourself one of these

    http://www.ebay.com/...=item1c1d98666e

and test all the high voltage transistors before you put them in.

    This includes the T2 !

It would sure be nice if the counterfeiter's we be nice enough to make parts that least came close to the specs... dry.png

  7. Richard at SumR is pretty good if you tell him what the load is (I usually multiply by 2.5 of the actual required current) and what your required AC voltage is under load.

Out of curiosity, do you roughly know what the actual transformer secondary current requirement is for the new PS?

  8. @ Horio, does your trafo spec take into consideration the required 580V output bias branch of the psu?

I sure hope it does. =)

The rectified unreg voltage should be somewhere around 630V. Correct me if I am wrong but this should give roughly 10% headroom for the 580V bias branch. I originally was going to spec 475V secondaries. I ran it by KG and he recommended 450V instead. He said 475V would work, but the PS would definitely put out more heat.

  9. For those of you who are planning to build the 500V output version of the KGSSHV, here is the transformer I worked out with SumR.

    Part #: RC0100 049 1

    Specifications:

    • 100VA / 117V primary
    • 2 x 450V (@100mA output ea) secondaries
    • 1 x 30VCT (15V-0-15V) 10VA secondary
    • Core band
    • Static shields

I believe you should be able to email SumR with this part number, and he'll know exactly what you are after. Either way, I'd still confirm the specifications with SumR just to be safe. Cost came out to $91/ea for my order. I purchased (4) transformers, so I am not sure if I got a bit of a discount. They said it would take about 2 weeks to fabricate, and probably a week or so to ship.

If you are planning to do the standard 450V build, you'll probably want to modify/lower the HV secondaries a bit so the PS will run a bit cooler. Maybe KG or someone else chime in, and give you the target secondary voltage under 100mA load.

  10. I'm planning on using the 3U x 40mm dissipante case for the KGSSHV's I am building. Looks like a nice case and it fits the bill.

FYI, I've been talking to SumR about a custom transformer for the KGSSHV 500V version. I think I've got it pretty well sorted out with Richard, and I'll post the part number and specs once its finalized.
