Carl "Blue Suede Shoes" Perkins is in the studio to record "Matchbox," his other great hit. Arriving early to the studio to watch him record is the man in black, Johnny Cash. Also around is "the killer," Jerry Lee Lewis, Sun records' new piano player who hasn't had any of his hits released yet. Driving past, 21 year old Elvis sees the armada of Cadillacs parked at Sun records and stops in to see what is going on.

A lot of this is just noodling around and the recording isn't great, but this one of the most impressive collaborations of early rock superstars that we have. The "Million Dollar Quartet," indeed. "Don't be Cruel" and "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" are real highlights.

Sad that by the time they started to get back together Elvis had already passed on.

I also watched it and the documentary the bloody 100th right after it.

My dad was a egineer on a B17 during WW2 so I had some interest in the show.

I also got to fly in a B17 at a air show with my son at a air show at the air power museum  on Long Island

Same here. My grandpa was a navigator on a B-17. I told my dad he needs to watch it.

    Drive to Survive, Season 6

Another absolutely fabulous season from these guys. It is not hyperbole to say that this show has changed the landscape of professional sports documentary (if not professional sports themselves).

The access DTS's crew gets is unparalleled. I cannot believe the intimate moments they are able to capture on audio and video. These people are not professional actors. The only way you get those types of moments is to be in as many places as often as you can. The production budget must be truly insane.

I devoured the 10 episodes in two days when I should have been packing up my apartment. I think this show is an amazing complement to watching the races, as there is just no other way to get this kind of insider access. I can't wait for the next season of races (and eventually the next season of DTS).

  4. NASCAR: Full Speed

    Drive to survive, but NASCAR?

Yeah, I enjoyed this. Only 5 episodes so short and sweet.

Sadly this does almost nothing to educate race-curious people like me on their sport. I know there is strategy, skill, and cool engineering that goes in to oval track racing but you get none of it here.

The difference between NASCAR and F1 also couldn't be more stark.

Still, this was fun and I recommend it.

  5. I went and did the demo at my local Apple Store. Expectations were low but I tried to keep an open mind.

Wow! First gen product, but this feels like it could be the future of computing. This is as impressive a demo as seeing something like HDR for the first time.

There is an amazing amount of polish for a first gen product. The video pass-through latency is supposedly under 12ms and feels quick enough as to almost be imperceptible. The hand and eye tracking are great. The ability to tune out the outside world worked very well, even in a busy Apple Store.

This is so much more impressive than the Oculus products, but for what it costs it had damn well better be!

Downsides? I want even more resolution than this. The FOV is good but not great. The apps that have been optimized for it are amazing, but most are just ported iPad apps. I also (nerd alert) found the foveated rendering very noticeable as to the high and low rez rendering and the drop off between the two.

Biggest downside is the cost. $3.5k is just a ton of money. If it was closer to $1k I’d be a lot more tempted to splurge.

Also, if this ever worked with Windows PCs for Sim Racing and Flight Simulators I’d buy it right now.
