  1. The Chinaman made some crazy drills here, Dude. Also, "Chinaman" is not the preferred nomenclature...
  2. This is the "speaker porn" version of "a criminal lawyer."
  3. Guy on /r/audiophile inherited this setup from his grandfather. He asked "Is this stuff any good? Should I keep it?" I managed to not blurt out "No, it's very bad and in fact dangerous. I'll do you a favor make sure it gets disposed of properly."
  4. "See honey? His wife didn't object to the Wilsons!"
  5. The 2006 energy of these photos. "Rotel Kitteh is warmin' hiz harbls on yr tranzistors."
  6. The insane perspective distortion brought on by the cameraphone's wide angle lens isn't even the weirdest thing about these photos.
  7. This guy likes sources.
  8. Remember this thread? I mean, it's no McAlister.
  9. That's an interesting diffuser.
  10. As much room porn as anything else.
  11. Was your friend telling jokes that required a rimshot?
  12. I own a lot of lenses, but end up using a 50/1.8 almost all of the time. All of these were taken with it and my 5D4, at ISO 200. F/9, 1/400. F/9, 1/200. F/8, 1/40. F/10, 1/500. F/8, 1/320. F/8, 1/200. F/7.1, 1/320. F/5, 1/125. F/8, 1/160. I took this one with the 50/1.4 at F/4, 1/80. The 1.4 has significantly more barrel distortion than the 1.8, which is never noticeable in actual photos.
  13. Speaking of Wilson and size queens: This fella wandered in to the audio snob subreddit and posted a terrible picture of amazing gear. He spent all his money on 1.2KW Mac monoblocks so he used a 2012 iPhone camera. Also, TWO Thor's Hammers because fuck you, that's why. Also also room treatment is for suckers, it would seem. Also 3: I maintain that Wilsons are the speakers that look like invading robots that are very angry with the listener. Your insolence will not be tolerated, fleshbag.
  14. I went to Chicken Alley today because I had $20 store credit. I walked out with an A1407 27" Apple display for $20, because no one in there knew how to turn it on. It has the old squarish magsafe power connector (which works with Mum's 2011 MBP, much to her surprise) and with a Thunderbolt to USB-C adapter, I can it get it to work with my M1 MBP. It's quite a display, 1440p, LED backlist, Apple color accuracy. It also has a hub function (wired ethernet, USB 2.0, FW800). I also picked up an Apogee audio interface and a Sunpak speedlite. More on those later. MV life is a trip.
  15. I've mentioned that much of MV live takes place on Facebook groups (much to my chagrin.) There's 3 major ones: Islanders Talk (invite only, must be an MV resident, no politics allowed), Islanders Unfiltered (same, allows politics, reads like the staging area of the next January 6), and MV Stuff 4 Sale (what it sounds like.) In that last group I see all sorts of deals, and have listed a few things myself. I saw this yesterday:
  16. I hope that floor is reinforced.
  17. RIP Marcello Gandini, who designed some of the most iconic cars ever.
  18. I went to Chicken Alley today and walked out with a final gen Airport Extreme for $28. It took me longer to factory reset it than it did for me to set it up as a range extender and update the firmware. Solid Just Works/10.
  19. I did some big boy wood working today. (Please Tice, stop snickering.) My (sainted, octogenarian) bought a "computer desk" at the end of the 20th century. It's made of solid wood, so it's still in one piece. Unfortunately, it had some really crap plastic-on-plastic casters that just disintegrated. Today I cleared it off of all computer hardware, flipped it over and gave it new feet: The new casters have a different screw pattern than the old one, but I re-used one screw hole from each so I didn't have to attempt any fancy alignment. I exited the proceedings with no more loose screws than I started with.
