  1. How is you saddle set up?  fore/aft as well as tilt and height will affect the amount of weight that get's placed on your hands.  Do you find that you tend to slide into the bars over time?  I've found that saddle position can have a pretty profound effect not only on pedaling/power production but also upper body issues as well.

I did move the seat back about 1cm since my last ride.  I will put it back in its old position and try it again on tomorrows ride.  I'm also considering what MisterX said and getting a stem with more angle to lift the bars a little.  The length of the one I bought made my riding position much more comfortable.  Maybe rasing it up a bit will make it a little better.

  2. ^^Mud is fun, but not from that angle!

Went for a ride this morning.  Since I put the new shorter stem on, I am much more comfortable.  I'm still waiting for the new saddle, hopefully this week sometime.  I did notice that my fingers go numb now if I don't move my hands around a lot.  Any way to stop that?  I ride with gloves but I need to get some new ones since I've had these for couple of years.  Can changing the angle of the bars and moving the hoods around make much difference?  I'm now to the micro adjustment stage of getting the bike set up and this is the biggest issue left.

  3. I've spent most of the morning looking for a data sheet or any other documentation from Philips and have found nothing.  The only thing I can find is that they say high voltage transistor.  I'm considering ordering a few but I have no way to test them.

Would one of the test sets like mentioned a couple of posts prior work for this?  I'd buy one if I knew that it would mean that I could at least have a chance of seeing if the parts were good or not.

  4. Are there boards available for this build?  I was asked if I could build one today and I said I would look into it.  I see some recent builds are being done so I assume parts can still be sourced if I look hard enough.  I'm already looking for hard to find parts to get my T2 started so why no t add this to the mix.

  5. Thanks for the info aerius.  One fo the guys I know that rides here just put some of the Armadillo tires on his bike.  I will see how they work for him.  He is a much more aggresive rider than I am.  I already placed an order just to get something on the way that I can ride with.  Since my birthday is coming up I may ask for these as well.  Not having an LBS really sucks when stuff breaks.

  6. Sounds like you found a good PT Vicki.  Good luck with the therapy.

I have been having a good time riding the new bike and all was good until I hit a very little rock today and all of a sudden i hear the dreaded hiss.  Luckily it was only about 150 yards to my house so not as bad as it could have been.  Walking in the bike shoes sucks though.  I have to replace the tire as well as the tube since there is a small hole in the side of the tire where the rock cut through.  Needless to say I was pissed.  I am almost to the 100 mile mark for the month and am very happy with that.  The weight is coming off slowly which is cool too.  12lbs so far for the year.

Any sugestions for some tought road tires.  The current ones are what came with the bike and have really thin side walls and I would like something that can stand a little abuse if ned be.

  7. I'm tempted to ask Fairchild how many parts we need to order to get them matched in a single envelope...

If it meant being able to have available parts to design and build new circuits I would be willing to buy a fair amount of them myself.

Is there no one that makes a decent SMD part that is equivalent to what is needed.  It seems that everyone is going SMD now.  I would hope they could make some good parts in those packages.

  8. With today being the middle of the month I can actually say I may make my 100 mile goal for the month.  I hit the 50 mile mark today and am happy about that.  I'm going to try and get in a long, for me, ride in this weekend.  Hoping to make at least 15 miles in one ride.  I got the Garmin working right again.  The spoke sensor had moved and was not lined up just right with the sense unit.  My speeds look more acurate now.  Still slow but I am getting faster even if it is only .5 mile at a time.  The hills are not killing me as bad either now.  I'm still slow going up but it is not as hard as i has been.

  9. ^^This.  The more I see the Calfee bikes, the more I want one.  Maybe when I make my goal weight as a reward.

I remember someone here having issues with the speed sensor for the Garmin 500.  I have tried multiple ways to mount the sensor on the chain stay.  No matter what I do the sensor on the spoke will hit the speed sensor.  Anyone else have a similar problem.  Right now I have it so that it will not hit but it only seems to work about half the time and when it does it is not accurate.

  10. I am going to try something like that tonight when I get home.  I have some memory foam laying around and just need to find it.

Does anyone know if the Brooks saddles will support my weight.  They look nice and I have heard a lot of people say good things about them but I don't want to get one only to have it stretch out after a few rides and not be usable anymore.

  11. Just got back from this mornings ride.  I planned on taking it easy since ai was not feeling great this morning.  Once I started going I go to feeling better and ended up riding pretty hard.  Not the longest ride but definately the hardest I've done yet due to the couple of climbs I did.  I was going to post the Garmin information but cannot get it to work right now.

As to my seat issue, the only area of discomfort I have is actually not at my sitbones but in the area forward of them.  I'm made a tilt adjustment the other day and it seems to have helped a little.  i don't fell like a I am sitting on my nuts anymore at least.

  12. Do you guys have any suggestions as to how to go about finding a seat that may be better suited for me.  My old bike had a 150mm wide seat and it was not comfortabe either.  The one on the new bike is actually much  more comfortable than the old one.  It has a cutout in the center which does relieve a lot of pressure.  I feel very little if any pain in my sit bones.

  13. I feel your pain Miguel.  My legs are not bothering me near as much as I thought they would.  My ass, on the other hand, is still trying to get used to the morning proctology exam.  I know better times are coming as I have already noticed that I feel a lot better during the day and I am down 10 pounds since the first of the year.  My wife and I both have weight loss goals set throughout the year and so far I am on track to meet mine.

  14. Nate beat me to my own name.  I think I posted it in the old thread but don't remember right now.

Nice bikes for both you guys.  I really want to see that De Salvo built up.  I like the orange headset and hope other parts match.

  15. Went out for about 5 miles this morning before work.  Two steep, for me at least, climbs involved.  I can tell that I am getting stronger.  I am making a point to take it slow this time and not overdo it.  I'm working up to the "Tour de Fence" ride that they do here each year.  It is a 28 mile ride around the perimeter of the base along the fence that divides us and Cuba proper.  I've wanted to do it since I got here and I think this year I can make it.

  16. That was a typo.  It should say 11-32.  I have a compact crankset(50/34).  I have friends here that ride Dura-Ace and Sram Red setups with tight ratios and they have a tough time with the hills even being in really good shape.  i purposefully bought a ower level drive train just so I could have the gear spread on the cassette.  It works well for 95% of the riding here.  There are some spots it would be nice to have that third crank ring like my mountain bike had but I will get by with what I have for now.  I make a point no to ride the really steep hills yet.  Hopefully in a couple of months.

I really do wish I had a shop to get a fit done.  I keep making small changes and can usually tell within a minute or two whether they were right or not.  I fit does not feel right I go back home and fix it before continueing.  Hope fully my new shoues and stem will get here first of next week and then I should be as close as I can get it on my own.

  17. I went for my longest ride yet yesterday, 10.5 miles.  I was able to manage 12.8 mph which I am actually very happy with.  Even with the 11-23 cassette some of the hills here are still damned hard for me.  It is getting a little easier though and slowly the weight is coming off.  I'm happy and that is all that matters really.

  18. Just to clarify, that was meant as a sarcastic comment.

I know that I am slow, right now.  Hauling 365lbs up hills is a lot of work.  I consider it a positive thing just to reach to top of the hills without stopping or having to walk the bike up.  Right now as long as I am on the flatter sections of road, not much of that here, I can maintain about 13-14 mph.  My cadence is slow but I know that will just take time.  I have a bad habit of pushing myself to hard when I start to workout and end up hurt only to have to start all over again a couple of months later.  I'm trying to take it slow this time around so that I can keep at it.

The new bike is so much easier to ride than my old one.  I'm very happy with it so far.

  19. I finally got out and rode today.  There are still some minor adjustments that I need to make to the bike but all in all it is a huge immprovement over my old bike.  I'm still getting used to the handling and just how far i can push it through turns.  I guess it is just a matter of time and knowing the bike for that.  Now to figure out how to load up the Garmin data so you guys can see how pathetic my speeds are.

  20. I finally got the new bike built up last night.  I took it for a quick spin around the neighborhood to see how it feels.  I'm going to have to make some adjustments to get everything dialed in like I want but all in all it is going to be a much nicer ride than what I had.  I did order the wrong shoes, size and cleat style so i am using the platform pedals that I had on the old bike for now.

I'll also chime in on losing weight.  I'm down about 7lbs since Jan 1.  That is with relatively no exercise and just changing eating habits.  Adding in the riding should move things along nicely.
