  1. It's starting to look like no one has KGST boards available. :( So I started researching getting my own made. I've never ordered PCBs before, so I could use some advice.

The cheapest thing I found is a $33/board deal from 4pcb.com, with a minimum of 4 (http://www.4pcb.com/33-each-pcbs/index.html). It ends up being $99 per set of three boards, with a minimum order of 4 for a total of around $400 (guess I'll just make more amps or have extras available for the next interested person). I'm worried about the specs. Is the 1-oz copper enough? What about the 0.062" thickness?

For small runs of boards, which manufacturers do you guys use? Are there better deals around?

The board run I did was for 2 oz copper, 1.6mm FR4 HASL.

  2. I must chip in here  There is no official convention.  I have a sort of mnemonic way of doing it.  Bias is always white.  Left channel has two colours with L in such as blue and yellow. The brighter being the more positive so yellow is the + output.

The right channel has at least one colour with an R in such as grey, and the brighter one is pink or similar.  This aids in checking you have it connected up correctly.

    It's pretty too.

  3. This thread reminds me I still haven't received boards. Has anyone in the US gotten boards yet?

For some reason a couple of packets seem to be stuck in Kennedy NY.  Perhaps customs hold them up?  I have pm'ed you with details.

Edit; to give feedback on this.  NY Kennedy is where the packets disappear from UK tracking.  I found on USPS that a couple were still in the system for various reasons.

  4. Don't you have to pay for shipping and poss import duty on Antek?  In Europe I think Toroidy are an excellent choice.

If you are planning to run at the Birgir advised 350v,  280v ac will also be excellent.

  5. That certainly would do it.  although it is a bit beefy, as Birgir said a few posts back you can cut the HT current to 140mA.

For Euro use you could have a single 230v primary.

  6. Yes that's the one. (edit; of course that doesn't mean that everyone should be fitting that value, just note you might have to adjust this)

Public thank-you to Kevin and Birgir for the design and pcb layout for this very nice project.

Birgir's and Kerry's comments encouraged  me to build it and I'm pleased I did.  The SQ is excellent.

Mine is on a piece of plywood at the mo.

  7. Very nice s-r,  what size knob is that one?

I must tell that when I was "testing" my last build.   I reached in to move the input cable and my knuckle touched the power transistor at 450v.  Well it was quite a jolt and I couldn't help but yell "f****** h***".

I was wearing the phones at the time and there was a big noise in them also. There was a smell of vapourised flesh and the attached pic shows a neat crater in my knuckle.

I am still alive apparently but I don't intend to try it again.

  8. The pcbs look good thanks Kevin and Birgir.

Have attached some images which will help builders.

The zener voltages have been mentioned, notice on the PS the 0.1microF/1000v caps have a pin spacing of 15mm.

Make sure the 24v zeners by the big caps are in the correct way as you'll not be able to get at them when it's assembled.

On the amps the 0.1microF caps by the servo are very small 2.5mm lead pitch.

Other than that it looks a very straightforward build.

    Have fun.

  12. Group buy announcement!

See why I said there would be a short pause?  As soon as these two gentlemen commit to a final for production for the group I will do the group buy.  Hopefully in the next few days.

I will pm all people who have put their names down for confirmation and payment.

The total requests for amps was around 80 boards and PS 50.
