  1. Craig, I have always enjoyed Big Science. Any other Anderson recommendations? On the Burroughs side, his collaboration with Tom Waits on Black Rider (I think it was some theatrical presentation) is really cool. Thought he was supposed to have done something with Nirvana in the 90s but never looked into it.
  2. I have never heard a stat amp where you couldn't tell if it was turned on or off - ie every one, where it is absolutely silent, will give some extremely light background noise - whether it was a Stax, Mjolnir kgsshv, t2 or carbon. The difference is barely perceptible, but is easier to detect if you place your hands over your headphone cups. Like Andy, my experience with the T2 is that it is extremely quiet. The Carbon is a touch more quiet, but not significantly so.
  3. Slipped my mind that "tonight" was European time. Needed two to go with two PCBs, but will just have to see what remains.
  4. Kerry, I have some 50k TKD 601 quads if you need - they are a bit more than these Alphas though. I would be interested in 5 of the Alphas.
  5. the alpha route certainly sounds fraught, despite the low price. I have an alpha and some tkd so can go either way board-wise.
  6. Justin wrote on here somewhere that he stopped using the Alphas because he had to bin half of them. Don't know if that was a blip, but doesn't make for warm and fuzzy feelings. Plus the 601 is smaller than the alpha so might be the perfect candidate here.
  7. Thanks, Craig, I see. So from the underside then. And am I seeing this correctly, that the flared part of the washer faces the nut and not the board?
  8. Craig, what size belville washer did you use? And did you have the b- washer just sitting on the insulating bush or did you use them on the other side (which would seem to defeat the purpose of the b-washer)?
  9. Good catch! I measured the ones I have that were produced around May of this year and they are 3.04mm on my Mitutoyo. 2.5mm is cracked out - not sure why they would do that.
  10. yes, you might want to check the continuity of the pins on the chip carrier for the lt1021 to see if the joints are good.
  11. wow, seems like a lot of folks uncomfortable with their shaft length...
  12. didn't you build one of these a while back? Just do a diode test between the two PSUs and you should find the problem fairly quickly.
  13. ^want! Just needs a touch screen so you can stream over wifi.
  14. I would be interested in a tad bit more thread on these. I've used them on 1/4" panels and there is "just" enough. Also, you don't want to be in a situation where you have to really over tighten because of having only a few threads as it will become difficult to turn.
  15. I think Soren and Kevin are right on this - more likely than not it is a generous amount of solder on the underside the permitted an eventual short through the solder mask. I think the flux is likely a red herring.
  16. But all that tells you is there are some volts going through the two LEDs for 2 out of the 4 power supplies. It just sounds like make-work for no purpose - like this:
  17. you could, but why would you need two? What would that tell you?
  18. I think Michael was suggesting we keep it the same and if not too much trouble to make it compatible with the TKD 4CP-2500 instead of the Alps. Obviously we are in your hands in that regard as neither of us have the know-how.
  19. I can confirm it fits (assuming it is the one pictured below), though a bit on the large size - maybe the alternate spacing could be changed to fit the 4cp-2500 instead of the Alps. It has a separate ground for each channel and can be cut in half for stereo mode without cutting through any traces. Maybe Pars could add his molex connectors to the existing gerbers.
  20. yes. Unless you use connectors (3-pin or 2-pin do fit perfectly), you don't want to directly solder these.
  21. So what you meant to say was that the Yamahas aren't clusterfucks and your LSR-305s sound like half-baked turds? That's not 7 million things.
  22. Yeah, always wondered why two sockets is the Stax norm. Other than comparing two 007s at the same time once, I think think of a single other time where I needed two jack. Dual bias, sure.
  23. Diode test? Or, what I have done may times to find issues or faulty parts, is measure resistance at various parts of the circuit between the good and bad boards - not the most accurate and sometimes the values fluctuate at certain parts of the circuit, but differences here can point to the culprit fairly quickly.
