And maybe someone can explain to me why the heck you would ever mount resistors like this:
Primarily for Heat dissipation but it's also an attempt to keep their stray inductance from affecting the rest of the circuit.
Could he have put that switch in a worse spot?
I swear the switcher for the heaters looks exactly like an off the shelf unit.

What are those things sticking out from the headpone part?
I would venture to guess they are pivot points that allow the headband to be rotated so they could be used as behind the head or conventional headphones but......

LONDON (Reuters) - Syd Barrett, the troubled founding member of Pink Floyd, has died aged 60, after living the life of a recluse for the last 30 years.
"The band are naturally very upset and sad to learn of Syd Barrett's death," Pink Floyd said in a statement on Tuesday.
"Syd was the guiding light of the early band line-up and leaves a legacy which continues to inspire."
A source close to the band, who did not want to be named, said Barrett died on Friday. Media reports say complications from diabetes were the cause.
