It's projects like these that keep me loving my chosen career path after some 40 years.
On a sad note, I received my first negative criticism from clients this week. And it was from two gay men. It was a project that I didn't have a whole lot to do with, but have been there several times to do some small finish projects and knock off items on their punch list. They've turned in at least a dozen punch lists over a few months time, even though they've been asked to look everything over and get all concerns covered on one list. They've also signed off on many of the items I've completed from those lists.
Yesterday my boss Ciaran showed me a text where they actually asked him specifically not to send me to their house anymore, as many items on the list I've only made worse. Ciaran has explained to me that he believes they're trying to not pay the balance of what's left on their contract, and therefore trying to create issues that don't exist. While I know that happens, it still hurts my feelings. Not only have I not received any negative reviews from clients before, they usually sing my praises to the bosses. Ciaran told me it's ridiculous and they can fuck off. He's personally seen the work I've performed there, still I can't help obsessing over it. I feel betrayed by my own people. Bitchy, little queens!
Funny enough, Kathryn, the owner of the bookstore was there when he read the text to me. She's was furious, and has been stewing over it more than myself. Several times today she's pointed out things I've done that she says are works of art. She knows that it bothers me. Stupid I know, but it upsets me that they're more than willing to smear my reputation over a few dollars that they know they actually owe.
Awesome job, Steve. Going to make for some happy zen reading.
As for the complainers, be glad you don’t work in a normal job with 100+ customers walking through the door. It’s about 1-2% but they are there everyday taking up 98% of everyone’s patience.

We had a track rental for today. Weather got the better of us...need to swap back to the street tires on my piggy. Bummer...
The good thing is I can start my drink a bit earlier...LOL. This cold and wet weather is overrated for most things, but brown liquor compliments it.

Were there pictures?
Finally have a build date for my ‘rex, 3/31. Can. Not. Wait. Hopefully gas is still under $20 a gallon by then.

Leave it to Naaman to have Walnut cabinets in his shop. When do the Wenge floors get installed?
Black palm.

Why didn’t he just install them in the breaker panel? Nobody cares about code and he could have saved you $23.95.

Looking for some full extension, undermount drawer slides for my IKEA hack projector cabinet - seems like no one has stock and it’s really hard to determine all the “required accessories” one needs. I started looking at Salice and looks like maybe they got bought and renumbered their parts? making it extra confusing… basically looking for 13-14” for a shelf (so no face) to hold the projector… ugh.
Should be able to call a local cabinet hardware supplier and pick up some imports. Normally you will want the slide, the front adjusters, and the rear mounting bracket.

What is the go to combo blade? Woodworker II? Doug? Need to ditch the Freud I'm currently using.

Are you making stops for the Woodpeckers track you put in? Steve found some flip stops from Rockler if you want to check out a fast cheaper option than the Woodpeckers StealthStop I bought (and haven't received yet).
I tried my HVLP sprayer for the first time today. Three coats of shellac on the base and drawer faces of my dad's desk. Super easy and smooth once I got the hang of it. Controls for air flow, material flow, spray pattern, and size of pattern takes a little effort to dial in but it was definitely a lot easier than the alternatives. And a much nicer experience than the airless sprayer I tried a couple of times.
In less happy news, I learned that the maker of the 8' LED lights I installed wasn't playing around when they said not to daisy chain more than five lights together. I had one string of seven lights that I had originally intended to split up with an extension cord at some point but forgot all about it. Yesterday that group of lights started flickering and went out. Turns out the first one in the chain was melting. 😳 I've now made sure five is the most and might reduce that to four.
I have a set of the Woodpecker stops on order, but shoot a link to the other ones. I figure worst case I can also make some.
The desk looks awesome. I really like using a HVLP. I have a Devilbiss Finshline, but picked up a Harbor Freight Black Widow. I really like the HF gun, shoots way better than the Devilbiss.

Looks great, Steve. Building the tree house sounds fun, something I would never attempt with my kids. They would ask every 5 minutes when it would be done, then fight over the best spot when it was finished. Maybe one day I’ll hold each of them their own chair.
Little more work done on the miter station. Figured I should get the counter top done so I can work off it. Woodpecker rail slots cut and test fit in place. Will shoot a couple coats of marine varnish on it tomorrow then mount it in place. Then drawer boxes. Hate drawer boxes.

... plus expertise in blending wood. 😳
Or maybe a magic ping pong table could fake it in some way.
Ping pong would waste a lot of wood, but could easily do the profile and cut a jig to do the bending around.

Being able to double drill and screw would be really nice.
What were we talking about?
On a completely different note, edge banding manually sucks.

Drama. If I did not have so much Incra stuff I might have considered the Harvey mitre and sliding table. Stumpy’s response seems super sponsor directed to me.
Yes, I’ve been following. Seems he was really worrying about his credibility with pushing Harvey products. I think these dudes should be doing woodworking as their main job and the internet gig for drug/hooker petty cash.

Those look pretty cool, I'll have to see if they fit in a normal T track.

I was contemplating a single piece leg for both legs made of the 8/4 Wenge I have laying everywhere, I just could not figure out how to do that in Skethup. I really do not trust my skills, or lack of bandsaw though so I am looking at other ideas
That being said, are you guys with the Hammer bandsaws using their blades or some Murican ones with proper measurements?
Also, I want to see more of Naaman’s 3D shop. Do you have everything modeled in Fusion?
I don't, it's actually all in Mozaik. I can import Sketchup models and place them in the Mozaik room with the cabinets.

Offset saw is a good idea in that space. What's your max cut capacity (length on the left side)?
What are you planning between the cabinets (the space under the miter saw)?
One thing I'd suggest is no miter fence on either side of the saw. Al and I both agree with the Wood Whisperer, that the only important fence is that of the saw. A fence on the cabinets could actually throw off a cut with a warped board. A T track set into the countertop on both sides of the saw, with a sliding stop block is all you need.
8ft to the left and 14+ to the right. The wall is inset where the miter station will go. So should be good to go either side. Dust collector will be under the saw. No fence, just planning to install some T track.

While the shop is shut down until the electrician decides it is warm enough to run the conduit outside, I have been trying to learn Sketchup and model some of the projects I am in the middle of.
Kind of clunky at first but it works pretty well you you figure out all the tools.
Need to download some more wood textures as I do not like the Walnut I have and there is no Ambrosia Maple, the lighter wood in this project.
Looking good! Bringing what is in my head to the real/digital world is always a challenge.
Here is my preliminary plan for the miter station. Frameless cabinets with butcherblock tops. The two cabinets will have slide out trays. Any suggestions?

I would love to see his shop wrapped in that stuff.
