Would you like to know the sound of a 3/4 bowl bit digging in without ramp .5 inch into Walnut?

    I know.

I think I mentioned to use cheap bits for a while. If it was a 1/4” shaft I assume you bent it? Then again your steppers might not have the power.

Sorry for your troubles with the magic side table, Jeff.

I've been meaning to post another plug for Doug's idea of waiting for a combo jointer/planer. I've been using my Hammer A3-31 in both modes to mill some maple and it is such a joy to use. It is very smooth to operate and the results are fantastic. The minor hassle of converting between modes is worth having both tools in one relatively small footprint. I'm sure it will take awhile to get one but it will be worth it.

Speaking of maple, Steve and I have finished the miter saw station gave frames and drawer fronts. Very happy with the station and its functionality. Not measuring most cuts because of the StealthStop works great and is really precise. I also got a hose adapter so I could use the 2.5" hose with the Kapex.

    Looks fabulous!

Full of Propylene Glycol at the moment so I have going to have to pump the whole thing out to see if the hoses that came attached were actually properly done.

Try seating them better? Sometimes it takes a bit of force to get them that last little bit to fully seat.

Not sure if you're already planning on chip extraction/suction but I'd highly recommend it. Also, if you can build an enclosure to help attenuate noise you'll be happier for it. I haven't managed an enclosure yet but the router is loud AF and I'm pretty sure we're running the same model. It's one thing to live with it for a few minutes during traditional router operation, it's another thing entirely to run it like that for hours straight.

I’m guessing the routers are louder because they are a brushed motor. Spindles are really quite.

Looks like I will be spending the next few months trying to figure out how to work my magic side table.

V Carve seems reasonable enough for really basic designs, my forte, but there is a ton of stuff to figure out.

Check out Mark Lindsay’s YouTube channel. It will tech you everything you need to know. He is a little slow which is good at first but gets annoying once you know what’s going on and just want the meat. If you have any questions shoot me a message, I’m pretty good at it meow.

I am thinking the best way to go now might be an even smaller Shark SD120 CNC and the big jointer.  Little CNC will be about 60% the cost and seems to be decent for the template making and basic CNCing I need to do.

Which ever one you get make sure that you are not tied into their software. One that has a post processor available for VCarve/Fusion/Solidworks.

    Time for a poll.

I am looking to shove one more giant piece into the garage. Which would the HC Woodworkers think the best thing to shoe horn in?

    1. 8” Jointer Powermatic or Jet seem to be the only ones shipping these days. (I mostly use a sled now on the Planer)

    2. 32”x32” CNC on a folding cart (Onefinity)

CNC would be slightly easier to store, but not sure if it is worthwhile for such a small work surface.

    Both is the correct answer.

The CNC will be limited in size but there is still a ton you can do and more importantly learn. When you finally get around to moving somewhere you can have a proper shop you will already know what you are doing on a larger machine.

Nice caddy! I haven't been home lately and haven't done any woodworking since this cabinet project for my nephew. I can't remember what I have posted about them previously but the ask to make one or two simple cabinets to hang kids clothes morphed into a much bigger thing. Two cabinets that are almost seven feet tall, with two sets of pocket doors to save space in the small room, six foot tall basic shaker doors with inset trim I made from two different pieces of molding, and six shelves in each section and no clothes hanging. Oh, and all painted with latex enamel shot from my HVLP sprayer. Designing and building and painting these monsters kept me up at nights. Steve very astutely took a pass on this one, but thankfully agreed to install them with me. They are super happy with them and filled them with kids crap within two days.

Those look amazing! Love the pocket doors. What hardware did you use?

Rotating the head would be painful.

Seriously though, that seems like one of the great advantages to a helical head planer. Just turn the damaged segment, all better.

Definitely.  On both counts. I had to rotate two but took about a minute each and I was back in action.

Looks like the two month old Dust Right is already developing a leak along a bad seam. So I guess I have to uninstall the whole fucking thing and take it in for a replacement. If I have to go to that much trouble I might just get the money back and get a real unit for the wall.

It's projects like these that keep me loving my chosen career path after some 40 years.

On a sad note, I received my first negative criticism from clients this week. And it was from two gay men. It was a project that I didn't have a whole lot to do with, but have been there several times to do some small finish projects and knock off items on their punch list. They've turned in at least a dozen punch lists over a few months time, even though they've been asked to look everything over and get all concerns covered on one list. They've also signed off on many of the items I've completed from those lists.

Yesterday my boss Ciaran showed me a text where they actually asked him specifically not to send me to their house anymore, as many items on the list I've only made worse. Ciaran has explained to me that he believes they're trying to not pay the balance of what's left on their contract, and therefore trying to create issues that don't exist. While I know that happens, it still hurts my feelings. Not only have I not received any negative reviews from clients before, they usually sing my praises to the bosses. Ciaran told me it's ridiculous and they can fuck off. He's personally seen the work I've performed there, still I can't help obsessing over it. I feel betrayed by my own people. Bitchy, little queens!

Funny enough, Kathryn, the owner of the bookstore was there when he read the text to me. She's was furious, and has been stewing over it more than myself. Several times today she's pointed out things I've done that she says are works of art. She knows that it bothers me. Stupid I know, but it upsets me that they're more than willing to smear my reputation over a few dollars that they know they actually owe.

Awesome job, Steve. Going to make for some happy zen reading.

As for the complainers, be glad you don’t work in a normal job with 100+ customers walking through the door. It’s about 1-2% but they are there everyday taking up 98% of everyone’s patience.

We had a track rental for today.  Weather got the better of us...need to swap back to the street tires on my piggy.  Bummer...

The good thing is I can start my drink a bit earlier...LOL.  This cold and wet weather is overrated for most things, but brown liquor compliments it.

    HS

    Were there pictures?

Finally have a build date for my ‘rex, 3/31. Can. Not. Wait. Hopefully gas is still under $20 a gallon by then.
