  1. On topic, I wouldn't buy a new production RS-1 after hearing both new and old at the recent NYC meet. Of course given how I feel about my woodied HF-1s I wouldn't bother with any of them.
  2. That's what he gets for acting like a monkey.
  3. I'd wager that your mini3 has as much if not more of both voltage and current capability than the Xin, just so you know.
  4. I find your comments about the output stage of the Reference confusing. Just because a device can make headphones make noise really doesn't mean anything. I dont' think there's a dynamic out there (K1k included) that will shut down an amp. Shoot, my Ipod can make the K340s make sound but that doesn't tell me a thing about the output stage. The reality remains that no portable is going to do much for the K340s especially fed by a low output portable source.
  5. Just to second what Jacob said, I'd go Neutrik or Canare for 1/4" plugs. I have had good luck with Switchcraft's 1/8" plugs though.
  6. I'm not sure there's such a thing as a cheap pair of HP Grados these days.
  7. HP benchtop DMM so I can properly match my dual monos amps.
  8. Happy Birthday, have fun at the meet.
  9. It wreaks of knowingly accepting stolen goods to me. Or, as JB said, knockoffs not worth the $39.99.
  10. ~40 new members in the last week
  11. Based on my limited understanding of it it's all the same nut to crack. The NAS was just a large storage device setup with a RAID array to self protect itself. The device controlling the RAID array and therefore what data was stored where since multiple drives were used to ghost a single large volume (or something like that) went tits up. When it did it probably lost the allocation table or the address configuration or something along those lines. So all the data is probably sitting there and just fine but has no way of reconnecting itself. The fact that the first recovery process didn't work is a pretty bad omen in my book.
  12. It's a custom Mapletree Audio Design Ear+ HD. Mark took the basic component set, tweaked it, threw out the whole power supply section and designed his own tube rectified supply and then designed the chassis. The chassis, a friggen work of art, is all him, the wood work, the trafos potted in polished old film containers, etc. I guess he had the plate fabricated but he did the cad layout drawings for it. And you should see the wiring, it's just unbelievable. Mark (Voodoo) is one of those people that sets the bar so high for the rest of us all we can do is look at it and go, "man, my stuff looks like crap."
  13. Thanks for explaining that Dan, that makes a lot more sense now.
  14. I have no desire to pour salt in Jude's wound. He's a man down right now and shit, I hope he can get his life back up and running soon. I am somewhat surprised to learn that Head-Fi and his businesses shared server/drive space since I thought that the equipment that Head-Fi ran on was paid for by a donation from Meier (the headfive, IIRC). Anyone else remember reading a post about that?
  15. You should hear it, it sounds every bit as good as it looks.
  16. I simply don't see how they can practically implement the rewind. So my vote is that they're going to realize this and fight as long and hard as possible to recover what they can or else it's reboot time and we all start at zero again.
  17. And to think, my wife still thinks the smell is "solder fumes". Bwaaaaaaaaaaahahahahaha.
  18. I find that appropriate for a self-described whore.
  19. When I get the WA lens for the D80 I'll bring the tripod over to Ian's and see if we can give you a better look.
  20. Shoot, the one forum I'm actually banned from.
  21. Yup, he and pinky deserve each other though so it's all good in my book.
  22. I have a feeling that we can handle those types of problems.
