blessingx 5,409
This one hurts, though he’s discussed this day often. Michael Apted, 1941-2021, ‘visionary’ director of Up series dies. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2021/jan/09/michael-apted-1941-2021-tributes-paid-to-visionary-director-of-up-series?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
Craig Sawyers 3,274
That was a hell of a series, made more relevant because I am the same age as the group that Apted followed from age 7 in 1963 through to mid 60's now. But until I read the obituary I did not realise he was a movie director too. RIP Apted.
Pars 1,557
RIP Pat DiGiacomo (aka Jocko Homo), passed away Nov. 4th. Good guy, knowledgeable engineer, but came off as being a bit cranky https://www.diyaudio.com/forums/in-memoriam/362564-rip-jocko.html

Wmcmanus 939
I could never remember his name, but he was always easy to find. I'd stand with him and his buddies for a couple of innings out on the concourse in left field every time I went to Minute maid Park. He gave people autographed pictures of himself. "In color" he would say as he handed it to me, and I'd say, "Oh no, that's Ok. You gave me one last time!" I guess I wasn't too hard to spot either. When I first met him, I was watching batting practice down by the 1st base dugout, sitting alone and looking like Santa. He found me. Instant 'unusual hair' friends. Such a kind and gentle soul. https://www.mlb.com/news/valentin-jalomo-astros-fan-dies-at-81

Yes, for sure. He sure was a nice old guy, so sincere. He told me that he didn't have much money and lived a very simple life. The cost of his season ticket was significant to him, but when the Astros organization got wind of this and offered him a free season ticket since he had become such a legend there, he declined. He said he should have to pay just like anyone else. A man of integrity.

skullguise 4,349 Posted yesterday at 04:15 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 04:15 PM (edited) Man....RIP Hank, what a legend! And since they include the Negro League stats now, his 715 wasn't even the record, it was 760 when all was done! Edited yesterday at 04:20 PM by skullguise

Voltron 24,795 Posted yesterday at 07:16 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 07:16 PM I remember seeing Hank play but I don't have any memory of seeing record homers or the home run chase, etc. I was pretty young and was not a stats geek. I love this article because it shows just how amazing a player Hank was: https://www.si.com/mlb/2021/01/22/hank-aaron-death-career-statistics-records
