Well Tyll as Innerfidelity is part of the Stereophile stable, I would have thought there would be several of you colleagues who test "mainstream" audio components should be able to help?

Yeah, I've got to get my amp measurement thing nailed down.  Argggh.

The mafia obviously...  >:D

I do think Tyll won't have it easy measuring amps as the worst offenders would never send their stuff in.  Then we have the idiots who think there are some gray areas in amp design who will dismiss the good performers as missing "the magic".  Now if Tyll can shame those that won't have their gear measured to do so then we would have real progress.  I do think that the shills on HF will not take kindly to this though...

Yes thats the problem

We all know that some manufacturers threaten to withdraw advertising if a bad review is printed. I know in some cases where manufacturers have sued publications to either stop or delay publication of reviews.

When you are doing this sort of stuff for a commercial publication there are all these sorts of issues to navigate.

The comments we make on here are largely from personal experience so are much less contentious for manufacturers, for them they hold little weight in their eyes as far as the normal joe public punter!

Well said Birgir.

Just a caution that this doesn't devolve like the nwavguy/o2 thing did... :kitty:

I have a hard time taking this seriously because the author isn't upfront about his actual listening experiences and how they correlate with design. It's also part of a trend, the sort of paint by numbers approach to criticism that I've been seeing more of since Olive-Welti. As it doesn't require hard objectivism ("everything that measures the same must sound the same"), maybe it's a sort of neo-objectivism.

I'm still trying to figure out why the fuck you think anyone here gives a fuck what you think.

NOooooo!

My X1's only got a D, 6/9, 66.7% pass rating!?

But I still think they sound good so what the heck?

Maybe author should have included a on ear critical listening grading too? Or maybe that would be subjective and tests were all objective in measuring only.

Still very interesting to read all the headphones reviewed by author though :)

But what a rabbit hole!

Channelling Jules:

"There's a passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17. "path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon you." Now... I been sayin' that shit for years. And if you ever heard it, that meant your ass. You'd be dead right now. I never gave much thought to what it meant. I just thought it was a cold-blooded thing to say to a motherfucker before I popped a cap in his ass. But I saw some shit this mornin' made me think twice. See, now I'm thinking: maybe it means you're the evil man. And I'm the righteous man. And Mr. 9mm here... he's the shepherd protecting my righteous ass in the valley of darkness. Or it could mean you're the righteous man and I'm the shepherd and it's the world that's evil and selfish. And I'd like that. But that shit ain't the truth. The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be the shepherd."
