Atlanta, GA - A-VCOA Portable Audio Jam

I am not yet sure of the rules for posting an activity on this forum, and couldn't find them. But, since I'm old and relatively impervious to verbal abuse, here goes.

On Sunday, May 4th from 12N to 5PM, the Audio-Video Club of Atlanta will host a program featuring both portable audio industry representatives and hobbyist demonstrators. This will take place at the Virtual Properties Realty Training Room at 2750 Premier Parkway, Duluth GA 30097.

We are looking for the latest in “portable” gear which might be used on the road, in flight, in your office, or anywhere you need great sounding music with you! This includes, but is not limited to players, DACs, headphone amps, headphones, IEMs, USB gear, etc. Latest additions to product lines are encouraged!

There will be no charge for tables for either industry reps or hobbyists, we only ask that you call to let us know you will be attending and bring your own electrical strips. If you will need lots of table space, you may want to let us know roughly how much! We will provide access to 2 electrical outlets per person.

If you have questions or plan to bring your rig, call John Morrison at 770-330-3919.

So far, we have a commitment from Darren Censullo of Avatar Acoustics to have a complete selection of iFi products for demoing and sale!

We will have a selection of current products from the popular FiiO line.

A-VCOA will provide light refreshments for this event.

If you are a hobbyist or an industry rep interested in showing your gear, please contact me ASAP! Click below to go to the event description.

Thanks John for posting this.  I have yet to hear from Brent whether he will be able to make the trip or not.  I'm in for sure.  Will bring GS-X MK2 & balanced HD800 for others to check out.

Also, Matrix Digital will send several desktop amp/DAC for us to audition including the X-Sabre DSD DAC.

Additionally, Phil La Rocco of Triad Audio will also send his ePhi OTL tube amp & L3 portable amp.  I'll bring my Pico Power, slim, and DAC/amp as well.

Thanks for all of you who are responding. We hope that you will contact your friends in the Atlanta area and invite them also. We are focusing on portable gear, but that doesn't mean not to bring your desktop rig. By portable we mean that it doesn't take a hand cart to move it! The more "cans" available the better, so bring your favorites to share! We'll provide appropriate cleaning materials.

We haven't been able to get Jerry Harvey's folks interested but if some of you who know them better than I do would give them a call, maybe they would provide some of their excellent products for audition.

So I just for back home. I brought a Chatt buddy and met some new people along with some old ones.

The highlights of the thing were the GS--X Mk.II from Purk tearing it up and od course the AriPower Extreme with Dinny Edition HF1-2s... And the Stax 002s.

Ok, I'm biased, but there really were some great rigs there beyond what we had. We had two pairs of Oppo PM-1s. I am old and crotchety, but with most things I listened to, they were rather good. It would be something I would short list to audition more seriously.

Good times. I also found out there is a meet in Nashville on Saturday. Too bad I left the AriPower with Purk in Atlanta because I didn't feel like breaking it down and bringing it home :)

Friends let friends borrow gear, no?

Oh! Tom Hankins and his lively wife Lyra were there for a bit. Hated we didn't get a little more time but maybe I can make another weekend of it at some point to hang out more.

Thanks to John Morrison (the OP) and the A-VCOA for putting on a solid event!

Show us pictures please.  8)

I was too busy being awesome to take pictures. This dude took pictures, though. AriPower was represented, as was other things that matter less than big orange amps.

Oh, and those Oppo Headphones are PM-1s, I think. Something like that. There really were some tracks that just sounded stupidly good on them, while there were some that were... odd. It wasn't on my gear, but maybe next time I'll get get to try them out a bit longer.

It was great hanging out with Brent and his friend Brian.  Brent had to leave a little earlier but was kind enough to let me audition his AriPower in my own envioroment.  Justin's GS-X MK2 charmed everyone at the meet in exception to one junior headfier who kept reminding me that his Questyle CMA800R is just as good in single-ended operation.  I thought that his amp was good sounding especially with the HD800 but the GS-X MK2 is clearly more transparent to these ears.  On a side note, he is in love with Cavalli Liquid Glass though.  His AKG812 was good sounding as well but has such cheap build quality.

Thanks John & A-VCOA for hosting this event.  We did have a really good time.  Next time, I'll bring less gears to the meet.  Too much work packing/unpacking on my end.

Opinion worthless.
