There's something wrong in Colorado...

I don't pretend to know the legal issues in regards to this, but there are FCT regulations that (should) pertain to this situation - I have the link to the appropriate page somewhere, as I had to do some research when I had to get things squared away with Mikhail myself.

While it's not jude's problem and I certainly don't think he's bound to do anything the fact remains that he's a powerful member of the community who might be able to exert more influence on Mikhail than the combined members of this whole forum. If he chooses to step into this that's his business and very decent of him.

One other thing: I question the wisdom of allowing this whole Singlepower Summer Meet to go ahead. I mean meet threads on Head-Fi have been removed because jacob was involved and he's 1/10 the pariah that Mikhail should be right now. :)

No, he's definitely the head-fi police. He runs it that way.
No, his stance on transactions that stem from head-fi have always been to help as best he can, but not to get legally involved. (To oversimplify -- he can correct me if he wants.) That's what this amounts to, essentially. And as Nate said, that's not to say that he doesn't have any pull, and it would be good of him to give Mikhail a call, and..."Yo, WTF?", but he certainly does not need to, as KG said.

every day I sell my labor to others, which has a cost of $0 to me.

^^^ I don't think so...

anyways, I suppose no one really sees where I'm coming from, as there aren't many "amen brother!"'s out there.

I suppose I'd run a business a bit different from him, that's all...

I see where you're coming from Marc. I don't think the price of most of the hi end amps such as SPs, RSA B52s, etc. has anything to do with cost and more to do with perception of what the market will bear. People will pay it, so there ya go.

heh, plus it was a leading question that no one fell into...

I can see paying more to recoup R&D costs.... but hitting up Kevin for what electrostatic amp should I put into production and then using something off a Stax manual doesn't qualify as R&D in my book.

Pars: My real beef is that people pay for it in part because they trust Mikhail (RSA, etc.), *not* because the market will bear it. Granted, he rightly earned people's respect with his first amps, as they sound good and are reasonably priced (yes, I own one)... but I think this trust was taken advantage of.

I don't have the words right now to flesh this line of thought out, but this is what I think the real problem is/was/will be. If I'm in the minority, so be it... I'm happy here.

yeah, what if I could sell something for $1,000,000 that cost me $1? Artful pricing, or con artist?
My dad once told me a story:

an obscure computer stopped working, so they called in a specialist. The guy came in, looked around for a long time, pulled out stethoscopes, took off panels, put probes in, but hadn't done anything yet. After an hour of this or so, he took all his diagnostic equipment off, put the panels back on, put his black bag back together, put the computer back together, then went over to it, and kicked it. It started right up. The people were overjoyed, "send us the bill". He nodded silently and left. A couple days later, the bill showed up, for $10,000. "What?!?" "You said send you a bill, I sent you my bill." "Uh, could you at least itemize the bill?" "Sure." A couple days later, a second bill came:

  • Kicking the computer -- $30.
  • Knowing where to kick the computer, $9,970.

I don't think Mikhail is off wildly spending those tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, I suspect he's using it to get by, wastes too much time doing R&D when he should be doing QC and warranty work, and buying gilt electroplating and obscure tubes. I doubt he could return the money, but I bet he has enough that, were he to put his nose to the grindstone and fix and deliver all the amps, he probably could. The question is whether or not his nose is going anywhere near the grindstone.

Am I the only one completely floored by that power supply?? He can't seriously be using fricken twist crimp caps (both orange and gray in the pictures) to splice stuff together in a $4000 amp can he? I mean there's just no way...:eek::confused::eek::palm:

They remind me of ceiling light innards...

Not good. I've been worried about SP for the past year and a half. Hope it's not all crashing down, but it looks like it is. What's weird is that he hosting a meet on the 26th.

Singlepower's Colorado Summer Meet - 7.26.08 - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio

I wonder what is going to happen at that meet... I'd say this is an impeccable oppotunity for customers who have problems with Singlepower to book a flight to Colorado and deal with the man face-to-face. Atleast that is what I would do if I was one of the unfortunate clients.

COST: free, Singlepower Audio would probably appreciate donations though

After rereading it twice I discovered that I was fooled by the "donations" part, thinking that Singlepower was still somehow part of it.

So did you or did you not build the identical circuit? Sounds like you just contradicted yourself there.

I built the amplifier and used a BH power supply since the voltages are identical.

I added a bench supply for C-. It was a prototype for bench use only.

BH supplies are very convenient to have spares of laying around. They will run

just about everytning. Of course there is something new and much more trendy.

Since its past the edit window, i see where the last statement

might be taken wrong. It should have read

If i was going to build and SELL es-1's it would be with a fully

regulated power supply...

I'm kind of busy lately and not paying complete attention...

This was yesterdays thing, and boy am i sore...

Sweet mahogany! Think of those of us with slow satellite internet in third world countries. I am going to go to bed and when I wake up the pictures might be fully download. Why do I have the feeling it's going to look like a scene from Real Genius?

Welcome to Kevin's world, where there's no such thing as a compressed image. ;D

Con artist. Anyone with morals wouldn't be able to do that.

If you can find a buyer, more power to you...every day I sell my labor to others, which has a cost of $0 to me.

Youre time is worth $0 to you?
