SI sucks ... just ask Carl.  I agree it's a business thing, and they likely got a ton of stuff from independents, but still sucks.  Is Nat Geo next?

Jeff, I've owned and shot with 14-24, 16-35 and an old 20, 2.8 D.  Loved them all, but in a ranking, it would go  like this: 1: 14-24. 2: 20 2.8, 3: 16-35.  If starting over, I'd grab the 20 first, because it's so small and easy to carry.

Owners of Nikon D800s (that'd be me now), be careful with the bottom plate area regarding stress (large lenses on tripods) and drops:

I baby my stuff and almost never use tripods (and only plan to own small primes), so I should be fine, but look at that thin strip of magnesium.  It should be twice as thick.  The fact that the D810 has been beefed up in that area is telling.

I've spent the last 3 years trying to persuade myself that I don't need a FF DSLR.  The itch just wouldn't go away.

I've just picked up a good deal on some second hand gear.  A D700 body and a Nikon 50mm f1.4 g.

So far, I'm very impressed by this combo.  I'm now looking to expand my lenses.  From KEH I've picked up a Tokina 28-70 f2.6/2.8 and a Nikon 105 f2 DC.  I'm considering my options for a wide angle prime.  I'm thinking a 24mm f2.8D but have read mixed reviews.   I'm also attracted to the Sigma 35mm Art.

Any recommendations?

I love my 24F2.8 AIS. The prophet Ken Rockwell (and yes I'm joking about the prophet thing) assures us that the optics are the same.

That being said, I would decide on a FOV~=focal length, and go from there. Its not *really* fair to compare such widely dis-similar focal lengths.

Or since this is head-case, just buy them all.

Because 24mm.
