I still found them to have the same Grado sound I hate, just not as bad as the 225's. I have heard the hf-1s and they are a nice deal for their original price, but I sure as heck wouldn't pay $400 let alone $900. Hopefully this was just a joke, otherwise the guy is completely insane. They sound GREAT with the Singlepower amps using 5687's. In fact, they are sounding extremely good with the new SLAM SE. I dont think acs236 is very fond of them either. Guest sacd lover Posted June 6, 2006 Report Share Posted June 6, 2006 i always thought they sounded grainy. acs236 and i compared the 120 ohm and the 50 ohm versions at the headroom meet and we came to the conclusion that one was better than the other, but i can't remember which! But hell almost everything is dull compared to the l3ks Dull is the last word I would use to describe them with tubes. The 595's are one of the most dynamic phones I have tried with the SLAM's.
