That is a bit of money for a basket. But it is really pretty.

I have not made the jump to IMS or VST yet. I have heard good things about both and was leaning towards a VST 20g ridgeless. Do you (or others) have a preference? But at the price, I could try a few. I have not had an interest in a puck screen at this point.

Next step after the Weber is the refractometer. >:D

I have a couple IMS and a couple VST. Honestly I grab them pretty indiscriminately. I used to be careful with my dose matching the basket, but I shove a 20gram dose into all of them.

Really?  Do you place the filter on top of the coffee before loading into the Flair? I might give that a try.

Yep: in place of the puck screen, on top of the coffee. Works great. You can get 58mm filters on Amazon for about a penny each. Like AeroPress filters they can be rinsed and reused a couple times.

hmmm - I like that. I hate the idea of filtering the shot, but this is just filtering the water before the puck. I also hate waist, but still interested.

It’s not filtering, particularly, it’s simply spreading the water the way a shower screen does, but more evenly. Keep in mind that the Flair 58 doesn’t have a shower screen/ I wouldn’t put a filter on top on a regular machine probably.

Yup - that was my experience on the first pull. It is a deeper basket than the stock one. I ended up with just under 24g in. So I pulled 50g out, and it was a lovely complex shot out of the gate. I pulled another one just to see if the consistency was there, and sure enough it was. So, I poured them together and sipped on the quad shot for a while. I didn't finish it, I would have been way too buzzed.

But I am happy with the basket, I may pick up an 18g just to be able to run smaller doses in the future.

Thanks, and understood - My issue is that with the Oracle (semi-auto) I can only adjust the dose so much. I reduced it this morning to its absolute minimum, and that gave me a 22 dose, which is the dose I really like right now. The grinder uses a little telescoping post with a set screw to adjust the fill level (max stroke). I was thinking for a few bucks I could have the flexibility to go to a lower dose if I wanted with an 18g basket. I really should be just talked about in terms of the size of the basket, the current VST that I have is 26mm high, and smaller one would be 24mm.

The limitations of the all in one machine.

That all being said - the 22g in and 46g out that I am sipping on right now is glorious.

Odyssey opened a very limited run of spots for Argos this morning that sold out in under 30 minutes. Fortunately I grabbed one in time. Starting with 6 bar for turbo shots + the Bluetooth add on. won’t be here for a while but glad i’m in line now.

also my P100 arrives next week so will have a couple months minimum to break in on filter.

I’ve never cleaned my niche. There aren’t a lot of places for crap to settle in it.

That’s awesome, Bryan! I can’t wait to get impressions on both the P100 and the Argos.

I’m at my partner’s for a couple weeks, so I travelled with the Niche and my little machine. Makes delicious espresso. I’m leaving the machine; Heather is interested in making espresso at home, in which case I should probably leave the Niche here and buy a Lagom P64, since I already have SSP multis in my Ode, which I could stick in the Option-O.

The Niche and the little Breville fit in just fine in a busy kitchen.

it’s a beast. i’ve been messing around on this Black & White El Burro geisha for a month and first v60 with the Lagom today produced far and away the best cup. ridiculously good acidity. the kind where it’s just pure fruit juice.

also it doesn’t matter but i am glad i got red speed coating on the burrs because they look cooler with it.
