  1. I'm a big Big Star fan but I'm not really a big fan of this one. I got it when I was in my Big Star phase and I dont think it holds up compared to #1/Radio City or Third/Sister Lovers.

BTW I have the deluxe edition of this ;)

I certainly don't find it as good as #1/Radio City -- indeed it's hard for anything in the general genre to hold up to those two... but it does scratch a particular itch. Might I impose upon you to share the Deluxe thingie? I don't have Sister Lovers either, that'd be amazing............................
  2. Cut your hair and get married already, dammit.
Why, not looking forward to living vicariously through any more posts of this particular nature?
Speaking of power pop, did you get the Best of Matthew Sweet that I had up?
No! I've had barely 15 minutes in front of my desktop Big Rig over the last two weeks! Need to finish ripping The Beatles in Mono sometime this weekend however, so if you could pop it back in there that'd redefine "swell"...
  3. Bell_Chris_-_I_Am_The_Cosmos.jpg

Chris Bell - I Am The Cosmos (recorded late 70s, released 1992)

I see Stretch is already on this. Good on 'im. For the rest of ye:

Chris Bell is the other half of Big Star. If you like power pop with a healthy dollop of melancholy, you should probably have this. If you like Big Star, you should definitely have this. If you have a particular affinity for Bell's material in Big Star (and I do), you should be committed if you don't have this. Woke up 30 minutes ago (played a show last night...) and am currently enjoying this delightful album whilst lounging in a bed that's not mine after eating a delicious breakfast which was left on the counter for me by a Canon-shooting girl who has ran off to play with my Nikon outside... rough times.

On another note, I've just learned there's a "Deluxe Edition" of this. Fuck. Will be ordering once financially recovered from last batch order.

edit: just got this text: "I think you have officially converted me to Nikon". Excellent. Excellent!! *wrings hands a la Mr. Burns*

  4. So when I first got my turntable, I just set it up all haphazard-like and got down to enjoying the music.

Since then I've gradually acquired a small collection of tools of the trade -- proper level, decent stylus force gauge, appropriate cartridge protractor etc. -- and today I spent a couple of hours getting everything dialed in pretty close to theoretically perfect.

Guess what, it sounds worse. :palm:

Off topic... but that happened with adjusting the resistance of the air mass meter on my '85 SPG. I had just randomly fucked around and got it running really great, then I finally bought an analog multimeter (only had digital, and analog required for stupid adjustment procedure) and got it bang to where it's supposed to be and it ran like ass.

I hate that kind of shit. So much. I am seriously anal retentive, impatient, and easily aggravated.

This and the pain/time of software acquisition are the two primary reasons I avoid getting into vinyl...

  5. todd rundgren - the verb "to love"

    holy fuck. the vocal harmonies...

actually just powered up my CAL Icon Mk.II (w/coveted HDCD upgrade) for the first time in months today, lashed it to the RA1/RS1 rig, and have been in fucking heaven the last few hours... this player is an absolute monster, eargasm after eargasm... ever have one of those listening sessions where you've been listening to tons of music lately but this time something's different and all of a sudden you are aware of a feeling of being like a completely dry sponge and are only now finally being hydrated?

  6. Er...... wow, side two of this is fucking epic! I really should have started somewhere else in this pile, the rest can't possibly be as good....

Side one very interesting as I'm generally not a covers fan (notable exception - Adrian Belew's take on The Wilburys' "Not Alone Anymore" appearing on his 1990 effort _Young Lions_; blows the original out of the fucking water!) but these are quite "faithful" and interesting to listen to.

  7. Fuck.... this barely merits the effort expended to type a witty response.......

Guys, he asked what advantage, not how much of an improvement.

The advantage is that it would sound a bit different and some people would prefer it, while others wouldn't. You may want some people to prefer it while you may want others not to.

I for example that someone preferred my money to owning what is now my SFD-2 MkIII

  8. Seriously though, I did indeed receive a "sizable" inheritance (so to speak), but it's been as much a curse as a blessing. The one girl I truly fell head over heals for, and wanted to have babies with, simply could not have a sexual relationship with me due to my size (length is above average, but the girth is insane) without serious pain (she wore size zero pants). Most times I'm able to be gentle and time is my friend, but it never got any better with her. Very sad story, because she felt the same about me. I'd have traded it away for her in a skinny minute.
    Shit........ can't imagine..... that's brutal........
The absolute truth is that you can be as big as you've ever dreamed of, but if you don't take the time to learn how to satisfy a your partner with technique it's a waste of meat.

My Brother received the opposite inheritance than myself (quite small actually), and it used to bother the hell out of him. He used to get babes like mad back in the day, and none of them were complaining.

Oh I have the technique (and a tongue of legend, which again isn't sizable but has benefited from considerable word of mouth, ha ha ha) but still wouldn't complain about a bit more uh, inheritance!

    haha lulz @ stretch

Right, so about those musical reproduction equipment widgets? I hear the ECR-1 sounds pretty girthy.

  9. tell me about it. don't really get it, if i were a woman i wouldn't want to sleep with most of the musicians i've met..... but when you're a musician AND you own a car, AND live on your own and have 6' tall speakers that look like room dividers...... muahahahahahhahha. i can even keep a tree alive, and cook eggs!

btw, you hear these things about these guys who go around talking about how big their dicks are all the time.........
