  1. Not sure if this is the best thread for this, but it doesn't seem like it's worth it's own thread.

I know a number of folks here use Cam-Expert for front panels, but Front Panel Express just sent out an email to newsletter subscribers indicating that the latest release of their software (due on April 12) will also include an OS X version.

  2. Monkey: sucks about Lyme disease... my dad had it, as long as they catch it early it shouldn't be an issue.

Sunday: Started looking for a house.

Monday: attempted feeding Abi solid food for the first time.... with hilarious results.... not quite there yet. Last night was better... perhaps tonight she might actually eat something. At least we're having fun :)

  3. One more thing I haven't seen mentioned from the prebuy camp (and one specifically for Stephen), the email I just got from Apple (which seems oddly timed after the presale already started...) indicated that you can reserve an iPad for pickup at your local Apple store. Might be an interesting option for those who don't have Saturday delivery options but might also mean deal with the possibility of hoards of idiots.

Yeah, I saw that.... and thanks for the heads up. It would be fun to be there despite lines, long waits... etc. but we are going to be busy that weekend and nowhere near an Apple Store.... sigh.

  4. You'd think that Logitech/Slim would be working on an app like crazy.

Think an app is really needed? The web interface should work just fine.

Unless, it's Flash based or some other thing that an iPhone/iPad/iPod touch can't deal with in it's browser. I don't know... I've never had a squeezebox and an iPod touch... sold the Squeezebox and just use Airport Expresses around the house.

Not only that, but the Logitech/Slim Devices music server software is there for their hardware. Add an app to an i-device that then allows you to stream music to that device and you circumvent the need for Slim Device's hardware.

  5. No, it can't be a server... or at least there isn't functionality for that in the iPod app or any other app that I'm aware of. It can play music from a music server though via Simplify Media... not sure if there are others programs. That's the model I think would be better... you have limited space on the iPad... serve music/content from somewhere else to the iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch. I have a feeling Apple might be working on something like that. They are currently building a $1 billion data center in NC. Couple that with the purchase of Lala, a service that allows you to upload your files and listen via the browser, and it seems likely that we might see that sort of service in a future release of iTunes or maybe MobileMe.

  7. I'm not really looking at this as a content device, but more as a work device. I won't need to put music on it.... I've got my iPhone for that. Perhaps some movie/TV shows. But I don't see loading it up. I typically deal with one TV series at a time so I'd only have a few episodes loaded on my iPhone now. iBooks... that might be something I load up on, but we'll see. I barely have time to read the shit I have to read for work, let alone leisure reading. Right now I'm digging through Snow Crash, one chapter a day.

No, my plans for this are as a extension of my desktop at work. Get files and take notes during meetings. We'll see how it works out. I'm a big Omnifoucs/Omnioutliner user and they are creating new apps for both of those for the iPad... that will be big for me. Also, it will come in handy at meeting for quick presentations and browsing through our Infopath forms on our group's sharepoint site.

Besides, if I get something larger than the 16GB, it will be the 32GB + 3G. So might as well check it out at the 16GB level first. I have no doubt that if it doesn't work out, I will be able to sell it off fairly easily.
