Nice choice, Tom.  I bought my mom a 11" Air for Christmas.  I got the Applecare, mostly because I know she would want it, but I also got her a year of one-on-one lessons, which I think she'll need and also enjoy.  I don't know if that's something that might work for your wife as well, but it wasn't really expensive iirc.  You can only sign up for it when you get a new computer, so if that's something you might want to consider.......
