  1. Yup, happened to me on my refurb (purchased 11 or 12/07) MBP. Geniuses confirmed dead logic board...got it back with a dead Airport card...ended up with a replacement brand new MBP. Sucked overall, though.

Hopefully you bought Applecare, or are on good terms with your local Geniuses.

    No Applecare :palm::palm::palm:

Maybe they will have mercy on me since it is only a month out of warranty??

Edit: I'm guessing yours was covered under Warranty/Applecare?

  2. My Macbook Pro (2.4Ghz, 2GB, factory refurb, bought May 2008 ) won't wake up out of sleep mode. The Superdrive will spin up (picture CD is still in the drive) but I can't get it to reboot. I've tried the PRAM keystroke and reseting the power management and nothing works.

I've scheduled a Genius bar session at my local store on Thursday night but I was wondering if anyone on here has run into this before

Right now is when it sucks to only have a computer as a source :palm:

  3. Post a picture. Some patina might not look too bad. If you do want to polish, you might seek out some car collectors as they might have a better suggestion; 3M chrome polish, etc.

On a side note when I saw the word patina in the subject it took me back... I didn't polish this patina out though.

  4. The Decemberists at the Fox Theater in Oakland.

The opener was Other Lives and they were basically a one-not kind of band. Droned on a bit, but had at least one song that was catchy enough to prick up your ears. Not terrible, but there had been a little hype that made us think they were going to be better than they were.

The Decemberists came out strong and played the entire new album, Hazards of Love, as a suite or mini-opera. They love theatrics and this set played them up well. Colin Meloy sounds exactly like Colin Meloy at all times. The Diamonds, their two female singers who are Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond) and Becky Stark (Lavendar Diamond) were awesome throughout this set, launching out from their own little riser to the right of the drum riser. Becky was the good girl in wispy Victorian dress, Stevie Nicks waltz moves, and ethereal melodic vocals. Shara was the bad girl in punky new wave clothes of black and silver who stormed out and stomped around while pumping out grittier vocals. It worked great and obviously fit the themes in suite. Great, rockin' stuff that flowed almost seamlessly for an hour.

After a 20-minute break in which they mended Colin's bleeding left hand, they came out for a looser, more ad-hoc second set. They hit some of the high points and played their typical obscure stuff that all their super-fans know and expect. They did not play Crane Wife, The Infanta or Valerie Plame, although they played songs from each the albums containing those songs. This was a fun set that reminded me of their show a couple years ago but didn't have the force of the first set for me.

    Check 'em out!

Wow, sounds like an incredible show. I've been playing the hell out of Crane Wife and Hazards of Love lately and would love to see these guys live. They will be in Raleigh, NC on June 4th but I can't go :palm: I asked the wife if I could attend and she gave me some crap about it being too close to her due date. What's that about ;)

  5. no, you didn't translate my comment correctly. you asked us to compare a specific item to an entire category of vaguely related items. my point was that there is no "tube sound." tube gear runs the gamut from anything to whatever, just as kitchen implements do.

I agree there is no "tube sound." I've owned three 5 tube amps over the years and they all have sounded different. Not to mention my sources and speakers has changed so there are a lot of variables.

Maybe the question I should have asked is, has anyone compared a tube amp to a B22 and if so what amps? How did they compare? No right or wrong answers and very subjective but I still thought I would ask.

  6. oh sure man, its fun to ask these kinds of questions on forums, especially when you are already excited about an incoming product. :)

I loved my beta but really it ended up being too much amp for me in my now humble headphone rig.

I don't have one coming in yet. I'm hoping/trying to listen to one before I buy. Another alternative is to go to the Southern Canfest in Charlotte, NC in February and listen to one there.

I started down this B22 qwest with the intention to build one but with our second child on the way that probably won't happen. Not to mention I'd spend way too much money and time trying to get the case work just right ;D

  7. compared to most OTL type tube amps I owned, the beta22 was more open, fast, immediate, and intense. however, at no point have I heard a beta22 be bright. its just neutral, clear, and powerful.

sorry for the audio magazine language.

Thanks, that is helpful. I realize that the question isn't any easy one which is why I'm trying to my own A/B comparison. Just trying to see what others have experienced before I can do it myself.

  8. I'm waiting to hear back from Stephen from Rockhopper audio about a possible home B22 trial. While I wait, can anyone comment on comparing tubes to a B22? I have a Woo Audio 6 SE so any direct comparisons would be great.

As far as music goes, I listen to almost everything (no country) but right now I'm mostly listening to folk and indie rock. Thanks in advance!
