  1. True... I am eager to try a proper DAC when my wallet allows it.
  2. My vinyl rig eats my digital rig for lunch. Since I got my old family heirloom TT fixed a few months ago, I've collected those records. Long live vinyl!
  3. new vandies sound great!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mini-me's in my bedroom with an old yamaha minisystem (temporary amp!)
  4. Well, as may already know from my other post... I re-bought the Vandy 1c's, which have been supposedly improved a lot over the past 8+ years since I bought my first pair, which does appear to be true. Anyway the Vandies are wonderful and definately on the darker side but still very detailed, a really great match with my amp, I am very happy and I now understand why the full-range driver market is a small one. I actually have a pair of Omega Mini-Me's in my bedroom which I prefer to the Minuets and I think they make a great alternative listen that is very sweet. As Louis states on his website they are harmonically pure sounding due to the lack of a crossover. But that can't compare to the Vandies in terms of range, dynamics, and punch. They are a very nice small speaker though for my bedroom setup.
  5. You are right about not being too critical, it can ruin everything. But I do want to start naming off good qualities about the Vandies, at the same time though I just want to sit back, rest, enjoy the music and knowing that these speakers will be with me for a long time. I am addicted to the warmth, richness, and the neutrality. It doesn't make me want to get all excited but rather it makes me want to sink back into my seat and smile and be at ease. It's a very relaxing thing, I think they are a great speaker for jazz. My next planned upgrade is silver speaker wire to tighten things up a bit. If I do anything after that it will be gaining a little additional power for them. I auditioned them with 50 watts but I only have 30. It works fine but the sound is not as tight and forward as it was in the audition room. Recommended is 20-100 watts so I should be ok though, maybe all I need is the silver wire upgrade? Not complaining! Although being a big fan of silver wire in conjunction with tubes, I have to say I can't wait to get it. It is true upgradatitis continues forever, but part of the fun is in the journey I guess.
  6. anyway thanks for the congratulations guys, I feel very special today.
  7. well, it is some old vintage integrated amplifier... it was my dads and bought new around 1979. But it happens to be a a very nice one. I had it fully retubed with NOS gold brand sylvanias, amperex, and JJ/Tesla tubes and it sounds totally magical.
  8. My luxman is only 30 watts/channel but its all tube and its got a beautiful warm sound and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I agree the 1C's might be slightly happier with a bit more power but I think I am okay since the recommendation amplification is 20 to 100 watts.
  9. wow... vandersteen 1c's... definately keepers!
  10. What exactly is poor high frequency dispersion? About toe-in, I do actually toe them in a bit.
  11. Yes, it was a bad idea, I never should have sold the Vandersteens.
  12. This is my first post here. I am very happy with this system (for headphones - DT-880's,) however the speakers are starting to annoy me, while they are very detailed and lively they seem a bit forward and get tiring to my ears after a while in my setup. I really think I should have kept my last pair of speakers, Vandersteen 1C's. Now I'm seriously considering saving up for them again. This is a pic of my rig. The speakers are Omega Minuets that have modified by rewiring with thick solid-wire copper wiring inside, and the speaker wire is directly wired to the speakers. The source is 1212M running into the Luxman tube amp via silver interconnects.
