Ok, so the more verbose explaination:
It's not racist to review or not review anything. Even rap. It's not racist to like or not like any music. Even rap. It's a copout to say it, it's typical liberal guilt. People review things that they think their readership is interested in or that they themselves are interested in. If you want there to be more reviews of rap for audiophile readers, find some, and review it. Honestly, there is discussion of rap even on headfi, it's just not as common as many other genres. Why does deathmetal get discussed? Because the people that like it are nerds who spend all their time on forums, and talk about it.
Tyll said it took him a long time to find a well recorded rap piece to put on his sampler, and he ended up with MC 900 Ft Jesus. It's just not something people do anything interesting with in the recordings, generally speaking. I like a lot of rap, but I'm not excited about it generally, because its' the same stuff I've been listening to for 10 or more years. I haven't discovered new rap in ages.
When you say new, do you mean musically, lyrically, or conceptually? Perhaps, something else entirely?

I wish you much happiness on this day, the day of your birth .

Happy Birthday, Justin .

I read this twice as she'd still get it and I was about to give you the
I have much love for Ms. Franklin but I have neither the indomitable will nor the back strength required to love her in that capacity.
Suffice it to say that at the age of 67 she's not looking as she once did.

I just got back from seeing Aretha Franklin in concert at the Hollywood Bowl. She's still got it.

I spoke to Brittany yesterday and mine will arrive tomorrow.
Nice, Mike. I just got off the phone with Jerry and he said I'd have mine next week. Apparently Brittany wasn't in the office today and so he's really swamped. Even then, our conversation wasn't at all rushed and he took the time to answer my questions and to address my concerns. He really is a class act through and through.

It's surreal.
I think that, generally, people my age (20 and under) never really got to know Michael Jackson as the "king". I have heard his most well-known work, I conceptually understand how large of a scale his popularity was, but in one large respect he is comparable to Elvis for me. The Jackson that my age group knows is the one that faced trial, money issues, a complete drop-off in professional success, etc. Essentially, we spent time making fun of MJ rather than appreciating his impact on culture.
It is quite a shame.
I agree. In my household he was still revered but amongst my peers he was reviled. I grew up doing the Thriller dance in my living room and singing "Ben." When I was 9 I had the opportunity to be in one of his music videos and I was able to meet and talk with him. It was odd because he seemed just just as nervous as I did. As odd as his public antics were, during our conversation, he seemed really down to earth.
He'll definitely be missed by a great many people.

Thanks guys . It would be a good deal happier if my musical hero hadn't died today . I did have the good fortune to meet and talk with him which is an experience that I'll never forget. Al, I definitely intend to make it up there for the meet. It'll be great to see you guys again.

True Blood

I'm desperate to find out what Maryanne is. The first season started off a little slow, but it's picked up nicely.

Well, I actually already have an iphone 3g, but I've never been one to refrain from buying new toys just because I have one that's similar .
supposedly AT&T will be adding 3G in my area in August, so that would be the earliest I could consider the switch. But with a cell the only phone I use, it may not be such a good idea..My cell is the only phone I use as well and I just moved to a new apartment where I can barely get a signal at all. It's something I probably should have paid attention to before I moved in .

Happy Birthday .

After frantically searching for both my wallet and my phone for the last three hours and discovering that they were both in the trunk of my car, I desperately need to relax. The soothing voice of Karin Bergquist sure goes a long way to helping me do just that.

I don't really need one, but I do really want one. I could dip into my Pico slim stash and just trust that I'll have saved up enough money by the time Justin starts selling them. Decisions, decisions...

What is the driving distance from Stankonia?
Well, it's impossible to drive from Stankonia, but my mom's birthday is around that time so I'll more than likely be visiting L.A. I'm sure you're quite aware of the driving distance from there .

I think I could make this happen.

Hi Julian. It was great meeting you at CanJam. At HC, you must be careful what you ask for as you are likely to get it. Also, anybody having "Cool" in their moniker will be a target due to another member, who has it.
Thanks, Ken. It was really great meeting you as well. I'll be sure to keep that in mind in my future posts .
Seeing all those Van Jam pics reminds me of when I used to work at In N Out and all the shenanigans I used to get into. Interestingly enough, one of the guys I used to work with was named Stephen and the reason I'll never forget him is because he once plunged his bare hand into boiling vegetable oil to pull out one of the metal fasteners that held the individual fryers together. When I asked him what the fuck his problem was he responded by telling me that ninjas don't feel pain. Weird guy that Stephen...

I spoke with Marshall awhile back when I was considering getting a CKKIII from him and he told me that he preferred the sound of the CKKIII even though he received far more orders for M^3s. I would imagine, like most things in this hobby, it's a matter of preference.

Oh that's easy, he asked for it in a post
Well, I wouldn't quite say I...
Tis true. I'm the head-fi d-bag that snagged the Enigma 580s . Perhaps, one day, I may be referred to as the head case d-bag who snagged the Enigma 580s or, better yet, I could possess a title sans d-bag.Ok, I asked for it .

Spent all day looking at houses. Found a kick ass one in the country with a super sweet 100' x 50' shop. Heated and cooled. Wife doesn't like the 9 acres that would need mowing It also had a home theater room with and a really nice wet bar

I drove to "the hood" for work. At least, that's what the woman whose I house I went to called it.

It was great getting the chance to meet all of you. Far more impressive than the gear were the conversations I had and the awesome people I met. Getting Naamanf's riveting strip club impressions and talking with he and Wayne about the proper way to run a business was particularly enjoyable .
I don't really wish to do the whole impressions thing but the two things that stood out to me the most were the jh13 pros and the Smythe system. I definitely need to own both of those. I'd like to especially thank Dan, Al, and Vicki for making me feel welcome and for helping me find JP on Friday so I didn't have to lug around my amp any longer than I did.
My biggest regret of Can Jam is that I was far too sober and you guys are definitely rubbing my face in it . Is 10:29 AM too early for Jameson?

If I had any doubts about what an awesome community this is, reading this thread certainly quelled them .

I got my sales receipt and mine will be here tomorrow. I don't usually use the word "giddy" do describe my emotional status, primarily due to the fact that my brother alerts me that it is a word reserved for women and homosexuals, but I may have to make an exception (on using the word giddy not on retaining my masculinity or heterosexuality).
