  1. Returned mine to the Apple store yesterday. The bass is phenomenal, but the peak in the mids makes voices unnatural and the treble is detailed and clear, but distant and too sharp a drop after such a high mid peak. Take away the peak and I think it would be quite a headphone, but I couldn't get past how disjointed it made things sound.

  2. Listening to the HD600/HD598/L1/Spirit One presently.. Making me realize just how good the HD600 is. Senn really knocked it out of the park with these for some genres. Making me reminisce about my old balanced HD600 setup. They certainly scale (just as the HD650 does) with gear more than most headphones, but with some of the newer phones available, it isn't always the best financial move to put so much source and amp ahead of the HD600/650 to get them there.

  3. I think it's a very nicely styled gentleman's headphone with good, "upper mid-fi" sound but not really good resolution and clarity.

It's good value for money though, I don't think there's much better in a $249 open can, but it's not up to "audiophile" level, I don't think.

Right on the money, matching my impressions.

  4. All said and done, $1755. Not the best deal, but not bad. The mint pairs on Audiogon go for around $1750-1850, and with new leathers and a body that is free from any dings or dents, this one is nearly mint condition now. I cleaned out any hairs or dust from the driver area while I had the pads off.

  5. Unfortunately telling the truth is not good enough. Companies who have fired someone can't even tell that person's prospective new employer why he/she was fired (theft, etc) even if it's the truth and 100% provable, because it interferes with them being able to get a new job. This is the same thing as it interferes with the seller being able to conduct trade. Nice BS laws we have in this country.

  6. Finally settled with the seller with him paying for the arcs. Not quite what I hoped for when I started this whole thing, but at least I got a better deal and by paying he admitted wrong. Won't name names publicly to protect myself from lawsuit, but if you want to know, pm me. I've sent pms to the few who have asked already.

On a brighter note I really discovered Stax and classical music today. By far the best classical I've heard from headphones. In the peace and quiet of my home the tiniest orchestral details made the experience quite a bit nicer than when I tried stats at RMAF. Other genres sound pretty much the same as I heard there. Can't wait to get proper leather on this so the pads are proper. The drivers are too close to my ear currently so things probably don't sound their best.

And on a darker note, found my Pioneer SX-9 receiver has a protection circuit interfering with SRD-7 operation so I'm thinking 323S. The Harman 5.1 cheapy receiver I have it on now has substantial hiss (and always did with speakers before).

  7. Cleaned up a bit of the yard and stuff on the patio. It was a nice day here about 62 and sunny. Little bit at a time, but got to eventually clear out all the plants along the fence line to prepare for a new fence long overdue. Trash men are not going to like me on Tuesday...

  8. That article was just first impressions and unboxing though so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Usually Mike's reviews are reasonable (other than the RSA Dark Star which I disagree with) once he has time to sit down and properly evaluate the gear so I'm sure he will do a good job on that.

Didn't realize until after the fact that English isn't his native language. Still, nobody is forcing him to write his site in English, and in doing so it should be as close to correct as possible. I'll scale back the tone of my comment, but the point is still valid.

  9. Just have a second, but seller says he did no wrong so I've got a battle on my hands. Serial number is 70671 so it is fairly old. The serial and the real condition was not volunteered. Took him at his word that the other parts were in decent condition.
