Yep, my fitter said the exact same thing, "you should have gotten a Tarmac". It's a Deda -20 degree stem I have with a 8-10mm (I don't know exactly) FSA spacer. I only have like 2.5 cm of drop but being short that is to be expected.
For now, but not if you stay in the game for the long term. You want more drop for more efficiency powering in the drops and climbing. Is that a 49?

Funny enough, they didn't complain the day I brought it in. Perhaps because stripping and cleaning the drivetrain was part of the $105 they charged for the labor package. The next day, I brought it in to have one of the brake cables shortened as it was rubbing my Garmin mount and they lightly gave me shit about the EFS residue that I dripped on the FD and bottom bracket.
Looks like we have similar body types. When I first saw pics of your Roubaix a while ago I didn't want to say anything, but thought too bad you didn't get the Tarmac. Is that a -17° or a track stem? As I regained flexibility I found my Roubaix's plus-size head tube too long, as I could only get 5cm drop.
With my Pegoretti, which I will be selling soon, I had to ditch the King headset for a Campy to get 6.5cm drop. On my CAAD with -10° stem I have 7cm. I replaced the 30mm cone spacer with an 8mm Cane Creek headset top. Also have a 2.5m Slam-Your-Stem top, but don't think I'll be needing it.
My next frame which I will be getting soon, has a 1cm shorter HT than the Peg.

One more glamour shot. New red cables, drivetrain was ultrasonically cleaned (it was filthy when I brought it in) and new-to-me Deda Campione bars and my favorite tape: Zipp Service Course CX. Tires were both changed recently too.
You bring a dirty bike into a shop? Isn't that like a major faux pas?

Jeff, I might be interested in the raceway. Let me know how much you want for it. Only worry I have is if will clear the stock spoiler on a 2006 Civic Si.
Cool car!

pigmode, did you get the anniversary Kirk or go for the regular one you were getting anyway?
No, too pricey for me that one. Will probably go with the regular ("full custom"), with an outside chance on a JKS which is again more than I'd like to spend. I'll have to say that Dave is the only builder I'd pay that much for a frame.

^ We do what we can right? Its all good.
Wanted to correct an error with my above post. My Kirk Frameworks deposit is delivered.
-
Saw that. Decided to send my deposit in a month or so, but for a JKS or his standard custom. Since I've decided to postpone my Haleakala ride this year, maybe I could do it on a Kirk, which would be cool.Today, my frame got Fed Exed to Joe Bell. Today, Dave announces this:

^ Perfect group to tighten up your game with!

Great builder and humble. He even keeps his shop comparatively humble, and he maintains very high standards. Got to get one.And very cool Vicki. Neat to see what kinda jigs a great builder like Dave has rigged up to hold everything in alignment while brazing! Nice fork! Would look right at home on my bike

If you point the bar end to or close to the rear axle, then you can have the "flat ramp" from the hood to the handlebars. Not sure but I think the flat ramp moves the lever away from the drops, compared to the set up in my pic. The Deda shallow *seems* to put the levers closer to the bars overall, than my Deda Zero100.Thanks, looks like if you mount the levers and point the bar lower, the better the transition and the more reachable the brake levers are from the drops. Am I understanding that correctly?
-
Raffy, The more the "dip" is eliminated, the farther down the end of the bar points. Here's my Deda 215 Shallow, with is the 26mm version of the (31.8mm) Newton Shallow. Its mounted moderately low and feels like it will be pretty comfortable for my riding style.Great to see your Kirk getting close to being reality, Vicki!
Pigmode, I saw elsewhere that you posted about the Deda Newton Shallow bar and that you like it. I'm considering trying those and moving from the Spesh Short and Shallow I have right now (similar to a Deda Zero). I like my current bar but I want a little more drop in the drops and I really dig the Newton Shallow shape. Question is: When mounting Shimano levers to the Newton Shallow, will I get a little dip from the top of bar to the hoods? If so, it is even that big of a deal having that dip? I like resting my forearms flat on area where the hood and bar meet.
Many want a flat hood to bar transition these days, I have that set up on my Pegoretti and on the (unfinished) CAAD 10. Thanks for bringing it up, I really should get a Newton for my Pegoretti, which will make upshifting on sprints easier with the Campy shifters where my hand needs to be jammed up to the bottom of the hoods.

I like this build with the 90mm stem.

There are adaptors such as from Wheels Manufacturing and Praxis that fit GXP or Shimano threaded BB's in the BB30 standard. For GXP you'll need the (2) bearings, and adaptor cups from Wheels Mfg. Circlips also if you don't have them--not sure if you need bearing covers or not. Very simple to install. For Shimano there is the Praxis conversion BB, which is what I'm trying on the CAAD 10.
A Compact crankset will give you climbing gears without having to go to a 32t cassette, with its long cage derailleur and wider gaps between gears. Wide gaps are the worst. Compact crank first always, if given the chance.

^ Keep at it.

Slowly getting back into it starting yesterdays rides of 32mi. Probably rode too hard, but did a short 6:30am ride this mornings as well. Still not out of the tunnel but it looks like 6:15am starts are possibly now--happy days!
-
You can put a *lot* of miles on that....
**BRENT**
CoolJust got back from 25 slow, but 100% pain free, miles. I'm basically back to where I was last year at this time, slowest rider on A1A (14-16 mph), but having fun. It was gorgeous out, and finally not too windy. I feel good.

Envy. Few frame builders have the experience Dave has. Not sure for how many seasons, but he has built the custom frames for the 7-11 team. -
Great bike. :thumbsup:Might have to look into the TDC here. From what I can tell, it starts from < 10 miles from here.
I've had my Trek done for awhile, but hadn't had the opportunity to shoot some pics of it. Went our for an 11 mile ride this afternoon, and shot some pics after I got back. I know with all the Kirks and such around here, this isn't much, but it rides nice and for a lower-end mid-80s Trek, it is fairly light (~23 or so lbs). Campy hubs FTW.
-
Boo, Sounds to me like you will be dipping into Dave's stash of discontinued original logo decals, the ones with the curving line and circles? Spoke to him a few weeks ago and I know he has a limited supply, so paint color matching would be determined by that to a certain extent. L-u-c-k-e-e-e!

Although still on the injured list, I'm also looking for new offroad clipless pedals. I'll probably just order the M520's for a start.
