580V is scary enough.  Has anyone actually got shocked by E-stats yet ?

based on what i heard from electrician, 1 ampere is enough to kill you, although i'm not sure how to translate that in e-stat amplifier. but that's enough to putting me off trying to build something i don't really understand or buying something from unknown incredible sources, especially after watching this

I agree but I'm conflicted; on one hand affordable stats would be great and I might be able to try one. On the other hand there are several hundred volts on either side of my head and a low price might indicate someone somewhere is cutting corners.

I know, its pretty dumb, "Just because it costs more doesn't mean its built better." but what can you do. Impressions matter.

orrrr you could wait, just wait for a bit, don't be a hero. wait until it's reach full maturity or everything become clearer or whatever. think like a pedophile case. if only they could wait, it would be okay i think

I thought linking stuff from here was grounds for gulag time over there? Or are they making a special exception?

This all reminds me of when Audio-GD first appeared and the shilling pretty much took over the entire amp section on HF. I wonder if that hurt or helped AGD in the long run, but I certainly hesitate now when I consider buying something from them, even though by all accounts the products themselves are quite good.

It's too bad, we need more quality electrostatics on the market and preferably not very expensive ones, but we don't need con jobs masquerading as legitimate products.

technically he is not linking, just quoting some of the post here. i forgot did he also mention this forum name or not. whatever it is, it's apparently allowed by the eye of sauron over there

Seems I made Thinker, aka "person in charge of damaging the reputation and decreasing sales of Perrun" a bit testy.  Ahh joy of joy's...

Also funny how people keep going on about me offering up the HE90 frame with Lambda drivers for 6k$.  Anybody want to guess how much two HE90 cups, the headband, cable, box and those insane little plastic gimbal pieces cost?  Yup...more than 6k$...  Ohhh and I got the last of these so no way asking Senn for any more...  I did try to get a HE-1 without the amps and cable but they kindly refused.

hahaha he basically copy+paste all you guys posted :D seems a bit agitated

i did remembered seeing those though, HE90 frame with lambda drivers but it was long time ago, i forgot where i saw it, who posted it and how much for the asking price

maybe if you could give a few nice words about HE-1, they would reconsider it

It's a shame, as even if they did happen to be semi-decent, these headphones are now are associated with not just skeevy dudes spamming forums, but actual cretins. Doesn't make sending $1000 to a random Russian feel any more sane than it did before.

they're very brave. considering the waiting time is 2 months now according from the post in that thread. it could be headamp or singlepower case, time will tell

  5. the death of stalin. very funny movie, if you guys watch veep, the dude who created that show directed and co write this movie

for tv show. i just finished gomorrah season 3, can't wait for season 4. one of the best show ever.up there with breaking bad

I've got the Libratum 2 in spring 2017, spent the summer trying to fix the perceived midrange emphasis I heard (in the end I managed doing it and sent back the result). It has been upgraded to the v3 driver in the end of 2017: the whole driver was changed IIUR, also the covering metallic grills, and the ear pads. Basically only the housing + cable stayed the same. A friend got the Canorum 3 and and we have compared them (see my previous post for that).

In principle, I won't share the price, especially since it was an agreement for prototype testing and measurements. I am also guinea pig for longer term testing.  Since the whole development is still moving, production pricing is not settled yet. It will likely depend on many things that possibly aren't even visible now. I guess if you order now, it's still a kind of prototype pricing, albeit the models have already moved up a bit towards production quality: you should ask. Most of the time he responded within a day, a few times it took a few days.

If spam is what you fear, create e.g. a gmail address for high risk communications such as this :). Besides, gmail is excellent in filtering spam.

    cool. i rather wait then

This is what I hate most about what has become of the hobby. Farming out beta testing to initial adopters has gotten way out of hand, and apparently because the adopters are totally willing. It's one thing to have a focus group, but it's another to have paying customers agree or even not agree to becoming de facto beta testers for products that are barely out of proof-of-concept.

    to ease you :D

Imagine Stax would have an upgrade policy... it would be wonderful.

When I assumed the risk for getting Phenomenon I didn't even know upgrades were going to be free. Definitely it was a nice gesture (from a guy who was very open about these being experimental prototypes).

Yes, IIUR the v4 driver is imminent, but I am so happy with the v3 + my pads that I might skip one or two (so far it looks like 2 upgrades per year, might slow down to one). The next step for me would be to get the current (or better) sound with stock (thicker) Libratum pads in order to make it more comfortable.

For costs, one should ask Phenomenon directly. Besides, what looked like @rico's irony was actually taken factually :).

While I do understand that Spritzer's (and my similar) encounter with the v2 raised suspicion, I encourage people to try v3 or higher versions. I recommend the Libratum shape, since it can be used with the [reversibly modified] 009 pads (and others) as well. I am pretty sure people would like it. I am not saying it would obsolete the 009 or 007 for that matter, everyone should judge it on their own. IMHO even with the stock pads the sound is very competitive with the top Stax, and the modded 009 pads elevate it quite a bit above - also giving an opportunity to a fair driver-to-driver comparison with the 009, using the same pads (with or without the dust grill; the Libratum does not use dust cloth).

it is. but i don't know how many stax had for their drivers revision through out their productions, let's say 007 or 009.if they had many, it would be nice to offer free upgrades but yeah free upgrade definitely a nice gesture

you bought the canorum v3 right? how much did you pay for it if i may ask? some people don't like share their personal email address to vendor/retailer/stuff like that just to ask the price of their products, just because there is a chance they might get spammed

When I inquired about their headphones, I was told by Phenomenon, anytime there is a driver upgrade (v4?) Phenomenon does the upgrade free of charge, but the buyer is responsible for the shipping costs. So why would you sell them and buy new headphones when the driver upgrade is free of charge? I'd think you'd be much better off paying the shipping costs for the upgrade rather than buying the new (v4?) headphones, no?

no idea then. how much this canorum cost anyway?

"the scary thing is that there are new tracks like this every day. Every day, new tracks, all the same. It just keeps coming all the time"

i don't think people really give a shit about the music, is it different track, is it still the same track? you're high, drunk, and possibly in rave party. life pretty much just slide show presentation in that moment

  10. hi everyone, i've been reading some of the fascinating threads on this forum for past 2 weeks. thank you all for very informative and entertaining posts.

i'm new and i don't have experience with stax headphones. although some months ago i've got a chance to listen stax sr-5 gold at my home for a week. i was surprised, they sound really good. is there any recommendation for cheapest good old stax i should look at? i also have toshiba hr-810, is this headphone anywhere near stax level? i could only listen them at 300ohm. when i switched to 1000 ohm all i got just distortion. thanks before
