  1. I've actually done really well on Weight Watchers and believe or not, the meetings are very effective and fun. I lived many different places and I never run into a group leader who wasn't very skilled and also a lot of fun. It's easier that counting calories and more sophisticated. You can also do it online without going to meetings...So why am I so fat?

  2. I've gotta' start...again. I've put on a bunch since I've moved to Mississippi (fattest, most unhealthy state in the US and A) The mover broke all of our exercise gear among other things. Really nice stuff. The equivilant of an Audio Aero Capitole(can't get it out of my mind.) Wow, Jacob and 909 great job (and who knows what's up in previous posts I didn't see?) You guys motivate me to do great things...After tomorrow and my birthday cake and ice cream and then Saturday too, 'cause it Mick Jagger's birthday...anyone know anyone famous born on Sunday?...no, I'm RESOLUTE!

  3. Sorry about making much ado about nothing. I thought if I made it a new thread with a simple question about whether deltetions were also customary as well as leaving up posts designatied as "sold," I'd clarify the rule and it would be and over and out kind of post. Didn't really want to drag on the old post. Thanks for the feedback, I'm fine just letting it be as long as I didn't get feedback that this was behaior out of bounds. I be cool.

  4. So, I bought that Capitole SE CD player on Audiogon, sent off my check, I'm a happy lil' clam and...Let's go look and see the "sold" sign. Yeah, that's the ticket. But to my horror and dismay, the post...poof, up in smoke, gone with the wind, etc, etc, etc.

Now I thought it was customery to keep posts up and put a bold "sold" so everyone would know that one lucky person got the prize and everyone else didn't. I mean, isn't that the good 'ol American Way?

So did something BAD happen here? Or are there mysterious ways that things dissappear that I don't know about and...most importantly: Does this decrease the likelihood of me ever seeing my Capitole come hither?

    Helllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllp!

  5. So I read my wife my high school creative writing response to the lurking approach(which I accept as a fair enough offering as an alternative to my "jump in and splat" ways) and not revealing that I was the auteur after my monolouge I paused basking is pride and asked, "Wasn't that cool?" She just stared at me and said...and this is an exact quote: "You keep telling me how bright and clever those new friends of your's are but that guy's a real weirdo!..."

So now I'm going back to lurking at home.

  6. I once took that "lurking" approach following around a girl I took a fancy to. For weeks I'd trial closely behind her watching her evey move listening to her every word. But always I hid in the shadows never to reveal myself. I became so long a lurker that all my life became shrouded by a cloak of invisability and lurking became my way of life itself. After a time I completely forgot about the girl about anything really. Only I lurked... Until one day there came a knock upon my door. Seems the girl had not forgotten me.. That's what the officer said when he handed me the notice.. And so it seems I had not been invisible afterall.

Now after all these years an empty feeling still lurks inside of me

  7. Yes, whichever CDP I get would be a one box solution (if in fact it is such) the player/transport, the dac, and the pre-amp. If in fact the Capitole is solid in all these areas and not of concern given and an two owner history, easy enuf to use and maintain, and priced right (seems that it is) then the $3,850 shipped really is paying for a lot of components and seems like a wise and prudent purchase (Can you spell "rationalization?"

If any one actually owns either of the CDPs(besides Jacob) and would care to do a litte mini review or, miricle-of-miricles, an a/b comparrison, I would be more than beholden!

  8. The time has arrived to do the dance. Consultants have consulted. Sellers have sold (me a bill of goods) I have constants in place: ATC 20-2 active speakers. (Gonna' keep my Headroom Balanced amp/dac for now)

Considering the following cd player/pre amp (all-in-one) purchases:

    1) Audio Aero Capitole 2 SE CD player/pre-amp

Probably about 5-6 years old, two owners, new tubes, $3,850 incl shipping agreed, seller on Audiogon

    2) Resolution Audio Opus 21 (like new "10/10) $2,695 obo (haven't talked to buyer and negotiated yet. He will call tomorrow.) Sold by Perrotta Consultation. Two other used from $2,399-2,599"

?: Is internal pre-amp good enuf or would I need to buy stand alone pre-amp? If so, would I not be better off w/above. Will I really hear a qualitative difference between 1) and 2)?

    3) Stand Pat: Sit back, relax, keep the 'ol "not so hot but won't cost me a dime extra" Cambridge 540C v1, get the speakers and let them break in. One caveat, however. If, I don't buy the cd player now, I may not get the $ released by my wife (a Commander in the Air Force, while I a Cub Scout flunk out).

    4) Seal myself off in a cave in the far off mountains of East Asia and contemplate grasping, aversion and impermanance!

I wonder what Jacob thinks? I wonder if he'll float me the Capitole?

  9. So I really like the headcase community. Not because I'm a audiophile or a techie or a guy who likes to sit at the computer and visit chat rooms. I really like the people here and enjoy the comraderie. And of course I love music. Like when I look at the "What are you listening to" forum I am blown away with how interesting it is. How much I have in common and how much opportunity it offers me to explore new territory.

But when you all get going with your witty repartee(can't spell. have a brain problem. it's real. over) I'm out of it. Just look at this post, for example.

    Blah, blah, blah.

You're a bunch of Noel Cowards and I'm kind a long winded Woody...

    Allen that is..

    So who will teach me...

to be cool and quick and ever so clever. I want to be someone's protege.' You know clean me up like in My Fair Lady or was it the Sound of Music.

    I dunno?

Well, in closing, I have a feeling this is one of those threads that no one will read, but I did get my "genious envy" off my chest. Quite a bright and articulate Wild Bunch you all are! Well most of ya'

  10. Ah, a barmar thread revival once again...I'm about to buy those atc 20-2 active speakers. Jacob turned me in the general direction of considering a speaker system and I did some detectiver and er, well, not to brag but I got the one and only new pair in the USandA to be discounted at over 50%(yes still too much, but I'm jazzed) All my research points to these working for me. Now...do the same principles of scale and synergy apply with the speakers as they do with the headphone world. I may have lost the opportunity/or chosen to loose(long story not involving Tom Waits)the Examplar Denon 3910 tube stage output mod cd player. Look for another of same or is there something in the $1500-2500 used on Audiogon seem more applicable with an active speaker set up. (I wasn't sure whether this should post on Source forum but I'm very curious how the discusion turns to the active speaker consideration. Oh, and again per Jacob I am looking at a couple of BAT preamps on Audiogon.

  11. Last point to clarify: The same proponent of power chords and power conditioner over cd player maintain buy a dac (Lavry) over a preamp (BAT VK-3 w/remote $1000 or BAT VK-30 w/out remote or phono $1250/motovated seller) All Audiogon.

I don't get it do you? Preamp right? Any preferences like abouve $1200 max unless something a little more in Dy-no-myte!

This is sooo good. I mean I'm almost there. Let's have a party at my house. Everyone's invited. Bring all that good music you've been listening to!

  12. But this issue is: If your budget is a constant as well as the money you've dedicated to your speakers and all the other gear were the variables, would you compromise significantly on your cd player, using it as a transport to feed into a dac and them put the rest of budget into power cables and conditioner or... woud given the aforementioned constants would you focus on choosing a better cd player with a descent dac fed it in to a good phono amp and forgo the upgrad in power cables and purchase of power conditioner to a second phase. There's the rub. If I go with the latter it means I don't buy that Exempler Denon 3910 tube stage output mod and stick w/my inferior Cambridge 540c v1 coupling it w/a Lavry dac and get Cable Pro power cable cables and power conditioner and forgo the former until stage two of my investment. It doesn't feel right to me. But I'm neighter an official audiophile or acousticist.

    What say you?

  13. I just talked to an "expert" in high end audio, acoustic theory and application. He went into a dissertation on the primary importance of room acoutics, proper power cables and power conditioners in getting the most out of excellent speakers(#1 consideration and cost factor for a sound system)... even more important than the cd player as a source. His theis is if the sound is not clean from the git go than a good cd player will still be working with a distorted signal. He talked about secondary considerations like room devices such as "bass traps" and other assorted construction on walls and ceilings. As you all know by now: "I know nuthing!"

    So...anybody buying?

I really would appreciate some feeback here. I got a feeling my latest posts may have been pretty inarticulate to all you audiophiles or maybe just plain dee you em bee, because I only got one reponse total (thank you, Jacob!)

So please bear with me here. I'm trying my best. But you guys (and gals...Hi Vicki!) are pretty much over my head in all these tech matters. I want to hang in here if I can!
