June 13, 200719 yr comment_34374 Has anyone heard the deluxe/remastered edition of Daydream Nation? How's the SQ? Report
June 13, 200719 yr comment_34415 I've not heard it but Pitchfork just gave it a 10 rating. Despite that they also made this comment... This reissue does what reissues have to do these days, raising the volume to compete with all the over-compressed new stuff on your mp3 player. Someone's clearly taken care with the process, making sure not to spoil the wide dynamics of this music, but this kind of re-master isn't the best fit for the open-room feel of the original: I'd be lying if I said the crystalline brambles of guitar in these songs didn't suffer a little from being flattened out like this. (Steve Shelley's busy, subtle drumming gets a particularly raw deal.) Mild audiophiles-- or anyone attached to the feel of the original CD and LP issues-- might want to spring for the vinyl re-release. Report
June 13, 200719 yr comment_34418 what a coincidence. There was just a thread about potting up the gain on new music in the off topic forum. Report
June 14, 200719 yr comment_34434 pitchfork says we might want to spring for the vinyl rerelease, but even the vinyl could potentially sound like shit if it is digitally sourced. fuck loudness, and fuck asshole idiot sound engineers. Also fuck old asshole musicians who want their music to sound "modern". Paul fucking McCartney, eat a dick. Report
