I decided to install the Leopard onto my iBook. So far it's taking forever.

yeah, that doesn't surprise me. i bet that Leopard isn't particularly well optimized for PPC, anyway.

We shall see. If it sucks, I'll just wipe and reinstall Tiger, since I have all pertinent data backed up anyways.

Well, I think I've killed my iBook. Leopard installation eventually went through, then it kernel panicked on me. Then proceeded not to work anymore. Tried re-installing Tiger to no avail. Of course, this may have had nothing to do with Leopard installation since I know there was at least some physical damage on iBook logic board where the Airport card is located.

Well, it turns on, but it either refuse to start altogether (while being still powered-on) or starts on the command prompt screen, from which point if I try to proceed with the boot, it kernel panicks.

One good thing is that it gives me an excuse to buy a new laptop. Of course, the bad thing is that I have no money to do so right now.

At least I still have my iMac. I'll just have to contend with having no laptop for now.

I thought of that, but as you have stated, it is a huge pain to take the iBook apart, and it is no longer that critical I have a laptop - it was just really convenient.

Just realized that Pithhelmet beta for Leopard is up now. Yay.

So as a last ditch effort, I attempted to restart my iBook from the Leopard disc to do a re-install. For whatever reason, that seems to have worked as I type this from the iBook. I hate computers.

Yep. Now it's indexing the hard drive, which I suspect will finish sometime in the next century.

for anyone who uses Max, there is a new unstable release that appears to work just fine in Leopard.

Oh a related note, my iBook is definitely on its way out. As long as I keep it on with Airport and BT off, it's fine. As soon as I shut it down, or restart it, it's a crapshoot as to how many tries it takes before it's back up and running. Oh well.

Yep, but it has had a good run, and I did (ab)use that thing throughout its life. Oh, and sleep mode works fine. Go figure.

After some initial pains, Spaces has definitely grown on me. It's too bad that some apps still don't play nice with it, though.

I'm still spending half my time in Tiger. 10.5.2 does look like it will fix my Wireless kernel panics though at which point I'll be Leopard full time.
