Looking for cheap portables

Featured Replies

Has anybody heard the Senn HD238's? I am currently using PX100's for portable and am looking to replace them. From what I have read, seems like they may be a decent choice.

I listened to them at CanJam on Tyll's enthusiastic recommendation and thought they sounded very good. They're also very light and comfortable.

Well he would know. Good enough for me. Thanks

Closed or open? The Audio-Technica ES7 is a nice one if you don't mind closed. It's not the most rugged headphone though and the "mirror" finish mars easily.

I had them for awhile and liked them quite a bit, but I am looking for something a little more compact in size and more comfortable like a PX100. I replaced the ES7's with Denon 1001's for use at work.

I know nothing about that model.

There were three Sennheiser portables in Tyll's room at CanJam, two on the back table, and one on the left. Two sounded not bad at all, and I was wishing I'd written the model numbers down as I have friends that would like them. Does anyone know?

What's your definition of cheap, ronnielee54? Outside of the standard recommendations (KSC75, 35s, PX100s, etc ), I don't know what else is out there in the under $100 range.

Do you remember where they were in his room? That might be one of the models I was thinking about.

Under $150 probably. Have had Porta-pros, have PX-100's and KSC75's at the moment. The reason I was asking about the Senns was because of the glowinf review on Headroom.

They were over at the middle table on the left as you entered the room. The 228s and 238s look rather similar, but I'm pretty sure it was the 238s I listened to.

I won a pair of the HD238 at CanJam this year. Overall I like them a lot. They are definitely better than the PX100. Not by much but better, more refined. About $50 more refined if you must know.

Yup, that was one of the two I liked.

Then they ought to be worth the $85 I found them selling for. Thanks
