  1. That's a great idea. Already PMed him. Btw he mentioned "All of the inner foam has disintegrated". What exactly is the function of the inner foam? I gather that the inner foam has nothing to do with the pads right, or am i mistaken... Thanks a lot for you help Monkey.
  2. Hey, is this the one? FS: STAX SR-Lambda Pro *CONUS* - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio Would the pads be any issue? Is the price reasonable?
  3. Yep I guess that's true. After all I suppose that's why most of us are here. What I meant was not to dismiss the IEM just because of reviews, not because reviews cannot be trusted, but because there are far fewer selections avaliable in the IEM arena compared to hi-fi or head-fi. In hi-fi there are just too much stuff out there for one person to fully try out, so impressions might be the only reasonable compromise. But you can't really afford that for IEMs, because you don't have much choice anyway.
  4. Oh yes you can wear it over the ear. I do that all the time. Though i wouldn't say that the ER-4 was made to wear over the ear. I'll take some pics if i can find my camera.
  5. Please do not have the idea that more expensive = better or more drivers = better. So far in the universal fit realm, the ER-4 has really impressed me. With ONE driver. I have never tried customs, mostly because my ER-4 with the custom sleeves from westone (coming in a few days) has served me really well and I don't see any need to get any upgrade. Besides I have better ideas on how to spend my cash currently
  6. But I fully agree about the walls part. That's the million dollar question I'm trying to find out sir. I'm not too suire about the technical details about the S/PDIF signal and clock, but doesn't a $2k CDP also suffer the same issues as a $200 one in this aspect simply because both uses exactly the same digital protocol? (and the issue is with the protocol). How was it better? You mean sound quality or CD reading tolerance, and how?
  7. You never judge a product by people's impressions. Its their ears, not yours. And besides I think that some have already highlighted that its a very personal preference. I personally tried the W3 before, but it wasn't to my taste. That's just me however. For all you know this might just be your perfect IEM, or the crappiest one.
  8. While it can indeed be an electrical signal, it is a 1/0 square wave (ideally) signal. I.e. the system only recognises the 2 different voltages, one for 1 and the other for zero. If we arbitarily assign them +1 and -1V, it doesn't really matter if interference or poor components causes it to become +1.01V cause the system will just take it as 1 in binary. Btw please don't take it as a challenge or a check of your authourity on this subject or anything. I asked simply to hear other's experinces with different transports. As for what you have tried, how does the quality of the transport scale with cost? Hmm... That was exactly why I put $200 vs $2000, and not $200 vs $220. I though that if people were paying 10x more there must be a reason right. Or maybe that's just my wishful thinking
  9. Yep that's exactly what I meant. Has anyone tried A/B different transports before?
  10. Hi, I hope this isn't a stupid question, but anyway: How is a $2000 CD transport better than a $200 one? As far as transports go the output is entirely digital, there are no analog stages that can be affected by inteference/component quality/etc. So what's the difference? Digging through doesn't seem to yield any definitive answer. I wish I could A/B them, but unfortunately its hard to come by in my area. Thanks!
  11. Thanks for the suggestion. How much does the lambda pro go for normally? While I can't seem to find any lambda pro's selling currently, I saw this lambda sprint on Y!Jp. Is it similar/better/worse than the lambda pro? Also does anyone here know how to buy from Y!Jp? How do you pay them since it seems that there isn't any paypal option there. Pardon my many questions. Thanks!
  12. Oh yeah I totally misread that. I thought he meant Mini3.
  13. Ahh One question, is the Stax SRS-2050A a good entry to stax? I know that there are reviews out there, and I have read them, but reviews are just impressions which don't tell you how they scale against others. I'm currently using the K701, but I'm still not too excited about the sound. And I was thinking that before I blow more money into a better amp for the K701 maybe I should give stax a go first. Any advice? Thanks!
  14. Its meaningless to say that desktops are definitely better than portables, as illustrated by dusty. However, blackgates aren't cheap, and so far I haven't seen anything that violates the pattern that desktops have better price/performance ratios to portables. Again no. However, portables are usually a compromise in design, simply because you can't have the kind of power and space avaliable to desktop setups, not to mention heat dissipation capabilities. Thus I don't really expect to see class A amplification in portables, or your pocket would be smokin. Whether to get portables or not is a matter of need. If you need it portable, then you really have no choice. But if you don't need portability, then if I were you I'll stick to desktop setups. I don't think it matters, but then I don't own any real powerful equipment to be able to make that statement authouratively. But frankly even if it DID matter, your amp budget at 2-300 bucks would probably not give any discernable differences. My 2 cents worth. I'm new here, so I stand to be corrected. Arthur.
