  1. I've been exchanging PMs with Rhydon about using HF2 for the Magnum process. Initially I thought the Magnum'd drivers will be different for each model but it turns out that I'm wrong. Nothing is finalized yet at the moment...

Sounds like to me that getting the Magnum mod for the HF2 is useless.. you lose the drivers & the wood and the outer housings aren't that much different from the SR325i/MS2i, the mod is really aimed at those two models.

  2. What hippie wouldn't be happy to have a $700 pair of headphones? Not this one! Pic MySpace style for posterity -- extra points for dirty mirror! (though i lose points for not using a camera phone)

BTW, the original SR325s are quite clearly the best looking post-MAGNUM'd variant.

Almost, I would slightly prefer the original MS2 without the plastic letterings, that would be PS-1ish!

    Awesome cans BTW!!

  3. If it is, did he bother to get permission? Or is this just a "similar" amp? And using the same name as another Amb DIY amp... those were the two issues that bothered me when I saw this.

Also ran across this (earlier, the quoted post)... ironic, no? It got better when I went back to read it tonight :palm:

Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio - View Single Post - Ray Samuel Tomahawk, anything similar?

    ''Even my custom volume knob....''

    Hahahaaa good stuff!

Back to the OP, I just hope that he posts some internal pics to see where the boards are from and what the design is. It would be a shame if it's really a Mini^3, using a DIY design for profits...

  4. Send an email to the person and say you will be in the area and would like to stop in and pick it up ;)

Like I said earlier, my emails & calls aren't being responded.

Hate to say it, but without that receipt, you're probably screwed. Worth checking with ebay, but I'd get on it, and I would at least pressure Mrs. Y, and tell her that you're going to the police. Maybe she cares, and maybe not, but you've got nothing more to lose.

The only way I can contact her is by mail I guess, I'm gonna check with eBay for that $1000 proof and contact the authorities (Which I don't know how or who... NYPD ?!).

  5. Did Mr. X send you a receipt by email for the repairs that were done by Mr. Oliver? If the repairs were indeed done, perhaps you could contact Mr. Oliver and he could help you trace Mr. X. It's a long shot, but other than that, I don't know which direction you could take unless you know the street address of Mr. X.

He did, I still have the email which have the receipt in it but I don't think that Mr. Oliver can help me here. Mr. X dropped by there only to pick up all my stuff and he doesn't live in NY anymore so I don't know his street address, I only know Mrs. Y one, she's the person who received all my money.

  6. OK, here's the deal :

Back in december 2007, I bought an Oliver Powerflex 502 bass amp + cabinet for $1000. The seller, say Mr. X, wanted me to pay with a money order, which was sent to say, Mrs Y. I also asked him to take the unit to Mr. Jess Oliver, who lives near Brooklyn, for a repair job. He did and I thought that Mr. Oliver would take care of shipping but instead of that, Mr. Oliver asked Mr. X to pay for the repairs, which he did and then asked me to pay him back, also with a money order. I sent to Mrs. Y $750 to pay for repair + shipping + storage time. When she/he received the second money order, Mr. X asked me for my home address to ship it, along with a vintage JBL D140F 15 bass speaker ($250 value) I sent to Mr. Oliver for replacement, which he received and refused to work with so Mr.X was asked to keep it along the other stuff.

The seller, Mr. X doesn't live in NY anymore. He said that my stuff was in NY for storage so I assume that it was or still is in Mrs. Y apartment or it could be anywhere, pawn shops, shipping facilities or storage company.

All these events took place from December 07 to August 08 and I still haven't received anything yet, no tracking number, no communication since early August, nothing at all implying that any progress has been made.

I tried to call him several times, the first time, I talked with a lady (probably his wife or girlfriend) and now I never get a respond when I call or by email.

I'm pretty depressed now. I invested ~$2000 in this and I don't know what to do now so I'm asking if anyone living in this area can help me solve this, I would be forever grateful so please PM me if you're willing to do so. You can expect some kind of rewards if it all goes well and end well.

I just don't know how to take actions on the legal side against him. Any infos on this side would help me alot!

    Thanks.

  7. You guys remember the HeadAmp Gilmore V1 & V2 ?! They weren't that beautiful and still were commercial products despite their somewhat DIY look. It's hard to get it right the first time, everybody has to start somewhere.

I do agree about that flimsy rocker switch, one can really do better than that cheap looking piece of plastic.

Keep up the good work and it's nice to see an audio company putting SQ & good value before anything else. It's rare nowadays.

  8. The Sennheiser HD25-II or HD25-1 (Same thing) would be a fine choice, they isolate quite well, the bass is tight and they do most things quite well, only downside I found is that they're supra-aural so comfort is up to you, I found my Grados comfy so they shouldn't be that uncomfortable to you. They're built like a tank and can be found around $200 new and even for less used. They share the same connectors with the HD580/6X0 series so any Senn's cable is swappable. They're 70 ohms with high sensitivity so they're fairly easy to drive from about anything.

  9. I hope you didn't rape your sr100's like this guy:

    http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f10/fs-grado-sr100-w-hp-1-drivers-goodies-311937/

I recommend a recable for grados. Use some wire known for smooth highs.

    Biggie.

That guy's nuts, he bought his pair for ~$660 on eBay & he's trying to sell them for way too much money, don't get me wrong, they're nice cans, but not worth his $950 asking price. I did mod my pair in a similar way but every mods I did are reversible (except for the recable, which was needed because of a lack of solid connections and frankly the old unamed Grado Labs cable is the worst cable ever, I ended up putting the Joseph Grado Signature Laboratory Standard Audio Cable, which really helped bring out the bass, smoothen the highs and give some more midrange magic). I A/B my regrilled/unbuttoned black SR325 housings with the stock SR100 housings and it's really no contest here, the metal housings did help in bass extension, the soundstage became wider and the whole spectrum became way more natural, no need for these crappy Dark Audio Liberators IMO. I also added a Beyer headband to make the thin Joe Grado headband more comfy.

I'm wondering if I should mod them some more to get the best out of them ?!
