  1. The T1 needs to be used with a 120-ohm adapter for optimal sound quality. Without it, the sound signature is pretty thin and focused on the upper midrange. With the adapter, it fills out nicely and has a very good overall tonal balance. The highs have a bit more glare/harshness than I am used to with the JH13 (possibly a symptom of the T1's harmonic distortion profile). It's not bad by any means, and not annoying or overly distracting, but not perfect either. The HD800 exhibits some of the same issue. The T1 doesn't have as large a soundstage as the HD800, but otherwise performs fairly comparably.

Does the HD800 also benefit from using this? This is the first I've read of the adapter.

  2. I this case it just means that these are fine headphones but poor value since you can get this level of performance elsewhere for less. Nothing new though since to me all Sennheiser's are poor value, save for the HD580.

The Stax Omegas are a faithful representation of what you feed them so in effect nothing special. Both the SR-Omega and SR-007Mk2/A add a little bit of color, each in their own way, but the phones are essentially devoid of colorations. This is what I listen to every day and the HD800 doesn't come close, far too colored. It isn't a bad effect though if you are into that kind of sound.

The wow factor can be very misleading and is often why people choose MP3's over lossless encoders as the MP3 isn't as linear and can be "impressive". Aside from the soundstage the HD800 isn't impressive so that might be why they fell out of favor so quickly.

My only reaction to this post is a good long laugh mainly at its inaccuracy, but also at the arrogant, condescending, know-it-all tone you use so often in your posts Spritzer.

They fell out of favor? Not with me. Preferred them to the O2 MK1's I had and thought them less colored.

Same here. Some people will just never be able to admit when another headphone is superior to their long time favorites.

  3. I don't have enough experience with other Senns so I can't compare the HD800 to them. I prefer the HD800 over all my other headphones (K340, HP2, HF2). I think that Tyll described them well. They get out of the way of the music. They don't have wow factor, they just deliver the music as delivered from the source and amp. I can listen to it for hours with no fatigue and no discomfort.

To me it's what everybody says they want in music reproduction. I guess a lot don't really want it.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I also agree with Wayne when he said that compared to the HD600/650 it's as though the HD800 were produced by another company. Over the last few months I've seemed to notice a "hate on" the HD800 trend around these parts. Not sure why really. I don't notice any emotion missing from the music at all nor a sterility. Just pure simple music. Pleased to know I'm not hearing the way many others are here.

    HD800>HE90>HE60>>>>>>>>>>>>>HD580/600/650

  4. I'm not sure I could personally give up both my AD2000 and Qualia in favor of the JH13 though, as those two offer a few things the JH13 doesn't, but damn is this amazing. The bass is ridiculously powerful (moreso than my Klipsch X10) and it still maintains clarity over the rest of the frequency spectrum. :o

Like what? Over yonder these things can apparently do no wrong and make people want to sell their Orpheus.

  5. Well, it's hard to compare the JH13Pro to a current full size headphone because I'm not sure one exists to compare to the JH13Pro. Maybe it's more like an O2 but on a KGBHSE maybe, without the "roll off, laid back or e-stat sound" you speak of (see quote). I can easily compare the ES3X to an HD800 or HP-1000, or the UE11pro to a PS-1 or modded D5000/7000 (better than Edition 9), but I'm almost at a loss about the JF13Pro = x full size phone.

I have briefly heard R10 and HE90 and don't have enough experience to say if that would be a match. I think the JH13Pro are more transparent and not at all "closed can" sounding like the R10 occasionally sounded in the mid-bass. I think the JH13pro bass is better defined than the HE90. So...

I just read this from Larry over yonder and am having trouble believing it.

I know these things are good, but as good or better than the OII/KGBHSE combo? Seriously!? Come on now.

  6. Do tell how someone is going to prove your outrageous theory.

edit: I'm not interested in further derailing this thread, I'll just temp ban you.

Hah! Good stuff. I always hate reading his arrogant posts over at hf. He is mostly attitude and very little substance.
