Whenever you're building black front plated mini KGSSHV with both normal and pro outputs, I'm first on the line

50k$.
I'll stick to Stax's cheap crap and entry-level amp like BHSE.

if you read the French forum, the manufacturer has already decided
that 1:5 transformers cause all sorts of grief, and now they are making
1:14 and 1:20 transformers.
As far as I understand, there are several transformers in this box : one transformer with 1:5 ratio, to be plugged on a OTL headphones amp with "medium" voltage output (around 100V, what the RKV claims), and another one (in beetween 1:14 and 1:20) to be plugged on a regular speaker amp, as for these brave old SRD boxes.
I may be french, but there are simply too much words in some posts on this french forum to extract the exact meaning of all this

French audiophiles like there sound coloured.
I'm french, so...
Anyway, could the "transformer path" be an interesting low-cost option for an entry-level Stax amp ? Something like the old SRD-X/P with a class-d chip, more powerful than automotive audio-chips used in SRD-X/P. Or maybe would it be totally irrelevant versus a brave SRM-252s ?

I do love black front panels.

the heatsinks on the regulator transistors limit the energy to about 2 watts each.
So what they do is limit the pre-reg voltage, on my line voltage, its about 380v
not a lot of headroom.
this is one of the many differences between this thing built well, but on a limited
parts budget, and the massive overkill we typically do.
Moaaar is better

Woah, so much "vacuum" in this WES. Even a basic SRD-7 box looks more engineered to the electronic ignorant (count me in)

It's not so much about your wallet, it's more about the wait times (which I completely understand the accountable factors in lead and wait times).
I was 90% close to ordering one but my local dealer wants nearly $9k of smackaroos for the RK50 pot iteration and if I ordered through Head-amp I save big $$ (including shipping costs) but the wait times a downer for me as I have no patience to wait for things.
The more or less year of waiting time is part of the deal, as far as I know. And I'm extremely patient.

Maybe I'll nuke my wallet beginning of may with an order. Maybe.

Don't even take look at european official distributors !

They are electrets but Audiotec also made full blown electrostatics as I've seen the schematic for the energizer. Bias is -300VDC...
291V. Nitpicking

The sound is typical of vintage Stax, midrange, midrange and a bit more midrange which is heavily damped.
Best vintage Stax description ever

Just bought a Stax SRD-7/SB mk2 energizer from Larry. Everything's flawless.
