Personal Budget Software Recommendations?

Featured Replies

I need to get a handle on my family's spending so I have started looking at software to help with budgeting and tracking spending.

The 2 that I am looking at:

Mint is web based and looks like it might be OK.

YNAB You Need a Budget is a software program that looks good as well.

Anyone have experience with either of these?

Any other recommendations?

I signed up for Mint but never really found the information it gave me all that useful. Now, we are fortunate to have felt like we had our finances under control for years before I gave Mint a try, so maybe that is why. I suppose if you were lost and had no clue where you were spending or saving, it could be pretty useful. And the price is certainly right, so it wouldn't hurt to try it out and see if it's helpful. Unless of course there is a security breach and someone gets access to all your passwords.

I've used Quicken for many years and that really helped me. It's not perfect, and they force you to update your software every few years, even though it does nothing that differently with each update. But there's always ways to find cheap software. There might be better out there now, I'm not sure. I've never tried Money or any of the others, but I haven't felt a strong need to try anything else out.
