Brown eggs are local eggs and local eggs are fresh eggs.
Today's post is brought you by numbers 13 and 666.
Ethan, here's hoping you get your Denon back soon so we can have another get together.
-
One of the reasons I have two sources is because of the less than stellar reliability history of the SACD 1000.
Yeah, that scared me off of SACD 1000 when I was looking at it a while back. Glad to hear you haven't had any problem with yours, though.
-
That's a great news, Ethan!
Maybe pick up another Exemplar off of Audiogon? They show up there often for a great price, but I think you knew that already.
You know, your misfortunes (and Nate's) with sources are making me want get myself a backup source as well. (knocks on wood)
-
Ethan, I love your new custom title, btw.
-
Okay, so I did the math wrong, the price range probably would be around $3K. My head wasn't working too well from working too hard.
-
No problem on modded or used player, though I think I'd rather get it new.
-
If I do go digital upgrade route, I'd probably have about $4K to 4.5K.
Still, the lure of the vinyl is still strong, especially after talking to few vinyl folks.
I hate this hobby.

Can I have your O2s?
You can buy them from me if I do decide to sell them.
I think your selling digital a little short, the DV-50 is a fine player but I think in terms of audio performance you can do better (maybe even substantially so) for less money and certainly for more money.
Maybe so. As much as I'm intrigued by vinyl, I'm also tempted to go all out and upgrade the digital front. The difficulty is that I'd like for it to be able to play SACD (universal would be nice, but I can deal with not having DVD/DVD-A) and that narrows the choice down some. Any opinions on high-end SACD or universal players? I did briefly look at Opus 21, but it doesn't do SACD and right now, I believe there's a fairly long wait for a new unit.
EDIT - Another thing in favor of digital upgrade is that hassles of vinyl scares me more than anything, especially since I may be moving around couple of times in the next year or so.
-
Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm still in a limbo as to whether I'm going to go ahead with this. Of course another option is to sell my Stax rig and DV-50 and upgrade my digital source altogether - I doubt I can get anything that would make it worthwhile (on the digital front), though.
-
So ever since I've gotten into headphones couple of years back, I've been intrigued by vinyl. Everytime I think about pursuing vinyl, I tell myself it's too much of a pain and I stop thinking about it. It helps in that I know very little about vinyl. Of late, I've been pondering if I should just sell one of my rigs (most likely the Stax rig) and get a vinyl setup. What do you all think of that, and vinyl in general?
-
You need to get into speakers first, the bunnies demand it
Ah, speakers.
Personally, I'm glad that I'm perfectly happy with my budget speaker rig, and that other factors (e.g., room arrangements) essentially discourage me from upgrading it.

living the regulated 120 here
Lucky bastard.
Got to love living in an old house/apartment in the middle of a crowded residential area.
-
Thanks Haj, I hope so too. Mark and I still get a chuckle out of the Sony from time to time so at least we can laugh about it. It's officially in Mark's possesion, I told him if he can fix it he can keep it, I hope that's ok. With any luck I'll be hearing about a new digital source/transport in a few days, then it'll be a matter of deciding whether or not I keep Monica around.
Nate
That's fine by me. I'm surprised, though, that you hadn't chucked it off a cliff after what it put you through.
-
BTW, Nate, I sincerely hope you'll have better luck with this than you have had with the digital side of the things recently.
-
Congrats on your new (used) toy, Nate! I'm glad to know that I'll never head down the vinyl path.
I personally use this
Priceless.

As I've stated earlier, I've sold my pair. I've, in fact, sold them for a modest profit, and I'd do it again without hesitation to get me what the market can fetch me for a pair. If anyone had offered me $400 for them while I still had my pair, I'd have sold them in a heart beat.
-
Dang, it looks like a beauty, Zach! Keep us posted how it does once you're done with everything.
-
Woohoo! I've been looking forward to this! I'll be impatiently waiting for their release so I can try them out with my K1000's.
-
I?ll get to hear them after Haj buys a set
I'm not buying a pair at least until I get a chance or two to hear them with my rig. Even then, I doubt I'll actually end up with a pair (unless I win a lottery, of course).
-
i would love to hear ur thoughts about the gsx as a pre..of course i want to hear what other pre's you tried.
you should love it as a headphone amp..sounds lucious
Sorry, I won't be able to give any useful opinion in regards to its capability as a preamp since I'm a complete speaker newbie and have had only one preamp (an headphone amp with preamp out at that) before.

You're officially required to attend the next Boston meet Salty!
Congrats, this is the "current-end-of-the-line" setup right ?
Something like that.
Though I really think I'm pretty much done for a long while now.
-
I see some nice balanced KSC35s that would have been great for the shot there on the left of the last pic
No worries, I didn't forget about them. I just had to rush through to get those pics before I left my place. I'll make sure to get pics of them plugged in when I'm back at my place.
-
I'm betting its John Tucker
That would be my guess as well.
-
I just realized that what I wrote on my last post sounded odd. Of course, I couldn't fix it by the time I figured out my mistake. Doh.
Anyways, here are some pics. Any and all spots, lines, etc. are some dust and not scratches. Please bear with the poor lighting, poor picture quality, and lack of any image processing.
I would've used K1000's for the last pic, but I was too lazy to take them out of their box.

Wait, you're finally going to have a digital source again, too? Damn, what is this world coming to?
