  1. Small practical question: I have a SRM-T1 and SR404LE. At first the plug was very tight, now after only a few times plugging in and out it feels looser. Is this normal or does this mean the T1's socket is going?
  2. Thanks for all the comments about the Stax stand and cover. I think I'll just go for that one. Now I need to sort out my sources...
  3. I want to get a stand and cover for my 404LE. The Stax stand doesn't look very stable. Am I right about that? The Woo ones look much better. But if I get a Woo single stand, will the Stax cover still fit over it? TIA Nic
  4. I played something to my wife through the Staxes last night, and when I said, "they sound great, don't they" she said she wasn't sure. I wonder if that means she will authorise a pair of Omegas?...
  5. Thanks. Despite it not being a perfect match my collecting instinct was attracted by the rarity. But actually I can't afford it right now, so PLEASE someone buy this before I change my mind: STAX EQUALIZER ED-1 Monitor Highend WIE NEU ** Rare *** on eBay (end time 16-Dec-09 17:20:29 GMT)
  6. OK; put it this way. I was offered one for $500. Should I buy it?... I figure if Spritzer calls it rare then maybe it's really really really rare...
  7. I may still get Omegas at some point. I certainly like a lot that I've heard about them. But I think I should hear them for myself first (which may not be so easy, particularly as I would never buy them from a German dealer, and would therefore feel bad about auditioning them in one). And I know it means getting a new amp in due course... Actually, I have to correct myself. I have a pair of Stax SR34-PRO (SR30PRO + SRD4). They were very cheap, and have a family resemblance, but of course are not in any way comparable. I guess they should go to ebay.
  8. The violin/piano I've listened to (Kremer/Bashkirova Schubert) sounded great but is limited by the original (analogue recording). The orchestral I've listened to (Rattle Mahler) sounded stunning. The total lack of congestion in the texture was truly breathtaking, and the bass very extended and natural. It was just a brief listen to check the amp worked. I have to decide now where it's going (with the main speaker setup or a separate office set-up). Nic
  9. Yes they are my first, and they sound wonderful. I am very happy. I am not sure I need better right now. Just more - one for each room. Thanks for pointing out my profile. It's a long story. I ordered the 404LE and paid up front, before they were available. Then I read some negative predictions about them and decided to upgrade to Omega. Told EIFL to get me a pair (must have been when I wrote my profile). Then when the crunch came decided the outlay was too much (having just also bought a Meridian DSP system rather by accident...) and went back to the 404LE. The T1 was an impulse on Ebay. And a good one - it had just been serviced and is in perfect condition internally (though a few dings on the outside). Nic
  10. Thanks! It sounds wonderful by the way! And no hum (so no need to use it to fix a hum problem). Nic
  11. I just got an SRM-T1 (my first Stax amp) to go with 404LE (my first Stax headphones). I see there is an earthing terminal. Under what circumstances should I use this, and how should I use it? (Balanced cable specially made up?) TIA Nic
