  1. but that actually would work other than it divides by 1000 so you have to put it on the millivolt range. and you need to keep it away from steve
  2. correct data sheet http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/2sa970.pdf safe to measure the voltages at the stax socket. but the bias will be the wrong voltage unless you have a very high impedance voltmeter.
  3. nah, 220 volt version of firestarter (power cord on clip leads)
  4. the crossed resistors for sure. not sure what the other resistor is. Otherwise the circuit is identical.
  5. Very painful to watch. sure hope the factory across the street is built with thicker reinforced concrete... why the museum was built this crappy, who knows. just a slab of concrete holding probably 50 thousand pounds of irreplaceable cars under a glass dome that probably was not safe either. Kinda stupid. They should be able to retrieve and repair at least 6 of the 8 cars.
  6. in unbalanced mode that is going to be .000098 watts. not going to hurt even the most sensitive of iems. Which you really should not plug into this thing anyway. In balanced mode its zero anyway.
  7. i don't see a problem. unless you want to spend a week matching parts... this is what the servo is for.
  8. A problem owners of diy T2's seem to have
  9. one of the professors here has a tesla. its spooky fast, and completely silent which makes it even more weird. When it gets nice out, I expect that we will be racing each other home...
  10. always wanted to see someone do the dual mono power supply stack. but you are going to need another power supply board to do that. It was designed that way from the start for Mikhail class pure insanity.
  11. was not planning on doing the phono stage. have not played a record in 20 years. here are pictures .http://amp8.com/tr-amp/foreign/etc/scp-2a.htm getting and matching parts would be almost impossible. there are schematics floating around somewhere.
  12. price the deulund and you will have your answer
  13. mine are all GR, but I doubt it matters, they are just used as current mirrors.
  14. depends if they are real or not. they sure were a lot cheaper a few years ago. and you do need 10 of them. Make sure they are all the same grade. In that package, they pretty much have to be real.
  15. ksa5 with lcd3, just great. ksa5 with he6 not enough oomph. ksa5 balanced with he6 wonderful
  16. I think those resistors are to make sure the gas tubes actually start. Something Mikhail had problems with. the resistor after the gas tubes was because otherwise they would oscillate into the output capacitor.
  17. well the stax mafia has been fairly busy the last few days. So a person over there was asking about a specific amplifier that they thought was WAY overpriced, and significantly under performing. Helped out by the fact that a certain moderator over there was shilling the hell out of it and doing his typical hatchet job on various posts etc. Well that's enough to get us involved. Combined with a picture of high enough resolution posted on the 6 moons website. Guys, seriously talk about giving away the farm. Well... http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/alostudio6.pdf What a massive piece of crap this is. If you really want to build one, its trivially easy to do it point to point. And dirt cheap. power transformer $80 http://www.classictone.net/40-18086.html chokes, pick your favorite Hammond chokes output transformer $28 each http://edcorusa.com/p/505/gxse10-16-5k slightly bigger output transformer $38 each http://edcorusa.com/p/542/gxse15-16-5k expensive coupling caps, go cheap, or go silly expensive now I sent this schematic to someone whose opinion I trust who actually knows tubes/transformer circuits better than I do, and his answer was exactly as I expected... we can do better. WAY better. For one thing, that power supply is pure crap. almost dual mono. that's just like "almost a room temperature super conductor" proprietary circuitry. Does anyone see any proprietary circuitry. And what about that solid state for the filaments... Guess that does not count in the "all tubes" thing... And stacked gas tubes? (represented on the schematic by zeners because I'm lazy) looks like a bad rip of this. http://www.cascadetubes.com/Tube_Site/The_6V6_Lacewood_Amp.html happy new year. The Donald north amplifiers are next
  18. I am certainly up for that. No problem with the chemicals, and lots of extra fume hoods that I can seal and then evacuate safely. Great for oak and such, but that seems boring. need to find out what it is going to do with my favorite hardwoods. Probably only one way to find out.
  19. on the original power supply chassis ground connects to iec ground, but not to power supply output ground.
  20. unbalanced or balanced in, unbalanced or balanced out? if you built it with standard parts, unbalanced in, unbalanced out, the gain should be 19.4db
  21. .2uf would be gain of -30db at 1khz. but it would have had great low frequency response. most of it subsonic. happy new year.
  22. are you sure those are 2pf caps, not 2uf caps. because that would definitely kill all the gain. also mospec semiconductor... I use real Motorola parts... edit: yep 2uf would take the gain down to about -50db at 1khz.
  23. input impedance of amplifier is 10k, so this might be an issue. if you have a scope and signal generator, might test with this first.
