  1. Per spritzer's suggestion, I put on some Megadeth, specifically the MFSL remix of Countdown To Extinction. The distorted guitars and Mustaine's vocals are as realistic and satisfying as I've ever heard with headphones. The cans also sound great at moderate volume, I definitely don't have to crank them to get bass impact and midrange joy. Having said that, they are definitely crankable if thats what I feel like doing. I've been working a bit with pad rotation. I initially tried them like I read spritzer and duggeh do in another thread, with the seam pointing at the temple at a high angle, but right now I'm finding better bass quantity with the seam running right below my eye. I'm not sure if it'll be necessary for me to bend the headband at all, as my head is big, and I think I've got the driver angle spot on. deepak: I actually don't currently own a copy of The Fragile :'(. I did just listen to In Rainbows and it was phenomenal. So thats kind of the same thing, right?
  2. I'll have to try that right now. My Omega II also came in yesterday. Currently I'm powering it with the 840A via an SRD-7/Professional. So without further ado, here is my official review of the Omega Deuce. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- STAX SR-007 (Omega II) ... A REVIEW AFTER 4 HOURS OF OWNERSHIP A madman is one who is 'crazy as hell son' postjack: 'hell yeah boy' This phone is kickass yall. I have finally come to the end of this essay. Have a good day, everyone. I'll be taking a sabbatical from head-case after this exhausting write up. I'm going into the mountains to like fucking meditate. --------------------------------------------------------------------------
  3. damn i would like some egg salad on wheat bread. lightly saltied, heavy mayonaisse, lots of pepper.
  4. I slouch. god i'm at work and i'm so tired. good points about putting the speakers up on paper, I'll try that. should really help round out of the bass.
  5. damn it I keep forgetting you're a mod.
  6. yeah you don't change your setup a lot, but you change your sig a lot, what with the hp2 disappearing and reappearing.
  7. Yeah you do I see it in your sig. Sell that shit.
  8. Well even after just one night of listening I can highly recommend it. A full, big sound from monitors for less then an RS-1 new. Don't you have a K1000 you can sell? I can't keep up with your gear.
  9. yay happy birthday.
  10. [me=postjack]makes self vomit, goes home sick[/me]
  11. No pics, at work.
  12. Mmmmmm, brief impressions from last nights listening fun time. The speakers are very pretty to look at, with a super shiny black laquer that gives them a very dark and refined appearance. They are pretty big (taller then my monitor, 24" widescreen), and have a good heft to them. I set them up non-audiophile style (more non-audiophile antics lie ahead) on my desk on either side of my monitor. As I said earlier in this thread, I'm running two Blue Jeans LC-1 RCA cables, connected using Radio Shack female rca/rca adapters, from the preouts on my 840A. Part of the fun of having them on my desk is it is super easy to adjust the toe-in. Toe the speakers further in and I get a brighter presentation, toe them out and the brightness goes away. I adjusted the "set it and forget it" volume on the back to just north of 50%. I spent most of my time listening to Ryan Adams soundboard recordings, which are fan recordings done with open mics on the stage run through the soundboard. I've found these do a great job of showing off equipment. I also did some listening with vinyl using my Denon DL-103. As to the sound, well they just sound marvelous, truly exceeding my expectations. Most startling is the rich midrange, which does both male and female vocals very well. The soundstage runs pretty deep for near field monitors, and centered instruments (like vocals) very naturally appear to be coming from inbetween the speakers. The one complaint is the bass can be a little boomy, but I think that is entirely due to the speakers' placement on my desk. If I really wanted to I could flip a switch on the back which cuts off some of the bass, but really I don't mind the boomy bass so much. In other news, its a lot of fun to run the 22Ls at the same time as the 12Ls. The 22Ls are about 6ft behind me when I'm at my computer, and running all four speakers at the same time, while maybe not exactly audiophile perfection, is totally kick ass. ok, back to work.
  13. yeah but then they wouldn't really be balanced, would they?
  14. of course! I was going to ask tyrion to do that for me this weekend. the double interconnect is a stopgap just to see how the speakers work out next to my monitor, dusty chalk style. They are BJ LC-1s i had laying around in the top of my closet, so rather then spend more money, I just stuck 'em together.
  15. sounds like good news!
  16. roflcopter
  17. Only issue is I'll be running some pretty long RCAs (actually two RCA cables joined together with radio shack female/female RCA connectors, making them several feet long)from the pre-outs. Eventually I'll have to just move my audio rack so it is closer to my desk, but its such a colossal pain in the ass it is to move an audio rack.
  18. woot, just got through putting my new 12Ls in the trunk. Can't wait to crank 'em out tonight. It'll be interesting to see exactly how the preouts on the 840A work, the manual is quite vague.
  19. Just got this one in today, and after staring at it all day have finally gotten the opportunity to listen. The set itself is beautiful, with an attractive surprisingly thick box (though I admit some tears have already occurred on the edges of the lid). The sleeves themselves are mini-lp sleeves, and are a lot of fun to look at, since they are perfect little recreations of the original vinyl, complete with all the fun instructions on the back like "no needle is permanent" and "make sure your turntable is level" and "record surface must be kept clean". The CDs also look like little records, which is also fun. Included also is a CD sized hard back booklet with little blurbs inside about each of the releases. Also there is a card inside listing all the recordings, which can be used as a quick reference when trying to locate a specific recordings amongst the 80 CDs. Listening to the first disc, The Goldberg Variations, as we speak. The sound appears faithful but shows its age, with tape hiss entering in and out of the recording. But to these ears, these old recordings are a lovely thing to behold. The packaging gets a total 5/5 for me. This is a boxed set I am very happy to have bought.
  20. Definitely demons. Eventually you won't even be able to hear yourself whistle, you'll just hear the demon pitch. And unfortunately the demon pitch only tells you to do one thing: kill. It would be great if you could finish up my amp before the murderous demon pitch envelops you.
  21. Also, I think I've seen KGSS with both pro and normal bias sockets. Or am I just making up a memory again? I do enjoy my fake memories.
  22. actually i think hungry is one of those old men who pretends to be a 16 year old on the internet. I admit I enjoy using the occasional "lol" in my typing. Hard to shake a year of World Of Warcraft.
